Herd Ties Career High with 22 Points in Win
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Senior guard Taylor Herd tied a career high with 22 points and led Quinnipiac women's basketball to an 82-76 victory over Niagara on Thursday evening. With the win, the Bobcats secured a first-round bye in the 2020 Hercules Tires MAAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championship and will play in the quarterfinal round next Thursday in Atlantic City.
Sophomore guard Mackenzie DeWees dished out a career-high 10 assists in the game, the most by any Quinnipiac player since Gillian Abshire had 14 in a 91-53 win over Rider on February 26, 2015.

- Both teams started the game at a torrid offensive pace, as the two sides combined for 52 points in the first quarter.
- Cur'Tiera Haywood's three-pointer with 49 seconds left gave the Bobcats a 27-25 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
- Niagara opened up a six-point lead midway through the second quarter when an Adia Brisker layup made it 34-28 in favor of the Purple Eagles.
- A 12-2 Quinnipiac run, capped by a Herd three-pointer, gave the Bobcats a 40-36 lead with 1:17 to play before halftime.
- The teams traded baskets and free throws in the final few possessions of the half and entered the break locked in a 42-42 tie.
- The Bobcats scored the first six points of the third quarter and ultimately took a nine-point lead thanks to a 16-7 run.
- Two baskets in the final minute of the quarter allowed the hosts to cut the deficit to six, at 62-56.
- Herd scored six unanswered points to open the fourth quarter, extending her team's lead to 12 points. The lead would grow to 14 after two free throws by Shaq Edwards with 6:21 on the clock.
- Niagara's Jai Moore and Maggie McIntyre combined to spark a 14-4 run that trimmed the margin to 77-73 with 3:37 to play.
- Neither team scored for the next 2:03, until DeWees knocked down two free throws to push the lead to six.
- Dagny Davidsdottir converted an and-one with 40 seconds left to make it a three-point game, but Haywood finished Quinnipiac's next possession with a layup that sealed the win.
- Haywood scored 17 points in the win, her highest point total since scoring 17 at Saint Peter's on January 30.
- Herd recorded 17 or more points for the seventh time this season and at least 20 points for the fourth game this year.
- Herd shot 8-11 from the field, the third time this year that the senior has made at least seven field goals.
- Warfel recorded 13 rebounds, marking the 18th game this year that the senior has pulled down at least 10 rebounds.
- As a team, the Bobcats recorded a season-high 23 assists, the most in a game since having 24 against Niagara last season.
- Quinnipiac concludes the 2019-20 regular season with a Saturday afternoon contest against the Canisius Golden Griffins in Buffalo.
