Gold Rush Returns to Lift Bobcats Over Niagara

Herd & Morris Combine for 32 Points, Warfel Earns 17 Rebounds
HAMDEN, Conn. – The "Gold Rush" strategy that has become synonomus with the Quinnipiac women's basketball program over the past five years made a significant impact in the team's 71-61 victory over Niagara on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats saw eight players score, including three in double figures to improve to 9-5 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Senior Taylor Herd made the most of the team's Senior Day by scoring 17 points to lead all scorers, while classmate Paige Warfel set a new career-high with 17 rebounds in the win.

- The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter thanks to 8-15 shooting (53 percent) in the frame. As a team, Quinnipiac forced seven turnovers in the first.
- After being outscored 21-9 in the opening ten minutes, Niagara's offense came to life in the second quarter, as the Purple Eagles outscored Quinnipiac 19-17 in the period.
- A 9-1 Niagara run cut the Quinnipiac lead to six points with less than three minutes until halftime, but a 6-2 Bobcats run gave the hosts a 10-point lead at the break.
- The Bobcats took command of the game at the start of the third quarter by rattling off a 7-0 and extending the lead to 17 points.
- Niagara would pull within single digits midway through the third quarter, but would not get closer for the duration of the game.
- Sophomore Amani Free made her first career start and scored the game's first basket. The New Yorker finished with seven points, three rebounds, and an assist in the win.
- Herd's 17 points came on an efficient 6-10 shooting effort and were complimented by four rebounds and four steals.
- First year Mikala Morris had 15 points on 7-15 shooting and also added five rebounds to her stat line.
- Warfel's 17-rebound effort is the second-such effort for the Bobcats this season as Morris achieved the same total in an earlier contest.
- First year Sajada Bonner also hit double figures as she tallied 12 points and knocked down two three-pointers.
- The home stretch of the MAAC regular season continues on Thursday night as the Rider Broncs visit Hamden for a 6:00 p.m. contest. The game will be Quinnipiac's Play4Kay event and all fans are encouraged to wear pink.
