Tufto Earns Fourth Career Player of the Week Honor, Leyh Named Rookie of the Week
ALBANY, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team nearly swept this week's ECAC Hockey Weekly Awards as Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) earned the league's Player of the Week while Ethan Leyh (Anmore, British Columbia) earned Rookie of the Week honors.
This is the first time the Bobcats have won two weekly awards in the same week this season as Tufto earned his first player of the week honors of the season and fourth of his career while Leyh was named rookie of the week for the first time in his career.
One week after recording his 100th career point, Tufto tallied five points on a goal and four assists against No. 16/15 Harvard and Dartmouth. He scored a goal and added two assists for three points in a 5-1 win over Harvard before chipping in a pair of assists against Dartmouth on Saturday night. He also was second in ECAC Hockey with 33 faceoff victories on the weekend.
He now has recorded multiple points in four straight games, totaling nine points in that span. Tufto leads ECAC Hockey with 19 assists this season and 203 faceoff wins while his 22 points are second in the league.
Leyh recorded goals in back-to-back games for the first time in his career as he scored midway through the third period against Harvard before recording his first multi-point game with a goal and an assist against Dartmouth. Leyh's assist vs. the Big Green came on the game-winning goal.
So far this season, Leyh is fourth among ECAC Hockey rookies and leads all Bobcat first years with five goals. He has also added an assist for six points.
The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team returns to the ice this weekend as the Bobcats face St. Lawrence at SUNY Canton Friday night at 7 p.m. before traveling down Route 11 to Cheel Arena and take on No. 7 Clarkson Saturday night at 7 p.m.
