Second Quarter Surge Lifts Bobcats over Stags

HAMDEN, Conn.– Quinnipiac scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter of Saturday's game and used the run to hand Fairfield it's first conference loss of the season in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the People's United Center.
Shaq Edwards and Mikala Morris each scored 15 points in the 76-62 win, while Paige Warfel added a double-double and Cur'Tiera Haywood scored 13.

- Both teams got off to hot starts from the floor in the first quarter as the Bobcats hit 10 of 15 shots and Fairfield knocked down seven of 14.
- Quinnipiac used five three-pointers in the first quarter to take a 25-18 lead to the game's first intermission.
- After two free throws by Lou Lopez-Senechal brought the Stags within five points, the Bobcats took control with the largest scoring run of the afternoon.
- Quinnipiac scored 20-straight points over a 6:50 span to blow open a 49-24 advantage before Andrea Hernangomez ended the half with a triple.
- Edwards, Warfel, and Morris combined to score 18 of the 20 points in the run, including 12 from the free throw line.
- Fairfield chipped away at the lead in the second half, holding Quinnipiac to 10 points in the fourth quarter. The Stags pulled as close as 11 points late in the fourth, but Taylor Herd's second three-pointer of the game sealed the deal with under a minute to play.
- The Bobcats had nine assists on 10 made baskets in the first quarter.
- Quinnipiac went 23-24 from the free throw line in the game, including 8-8 by Warfel.
- Warfel earned her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The senior added two assists, three steals, and a block in the win.
- Haywood was a perfect 5-5 from the floor, scoring 13 points and adding two boards and three assists.
- Morris made five of her six shots from the field, while Edwards dished out five assists as the duo combined for 30 points on the day.
- Quinnipiac returns to Hamden on Saturday to renew an in-state rivalry with Fairfield. The Stags visit the People's United Center for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
