Warfel Pulls Down 13 Boards in Loss
HAMDEN, Conn.– Despite 13 points from junior Shaq Edwards, the Quinnipiac women's basketball team came up short against Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening. The Red Foxes got 30 points from senior Alana Gilmer en route to the 73-60 victory in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

- The Bobcats hit four three-pointers in the first quarter, while Marist knocked down three, resulting in a 19-18 Marist lead at the end of the frame.
- The first quarter featured five lead changes and neither team led by more than four points.
- Marist opened the second quarter with a 10-4 run, extending its lead to 29-22 with 5:58 on the clock. Mackenzie DeWees and Taylor Herd each hit two shots in next few minutes, but a Gilmer layup sent the Red Foxes to the break with an eight-point lead.
- The third quarter involved solid runs by both teams with Marist striking first. After a Herd layup opened the period, Marist scored eight-straight points to extend the lead to 14 points.
- The lead remained 14 with 4:18 left, before the Bobcats rattled off an 11-2 spurt to end the period and cut the deficit to just five.
- Gilmer took control in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 of her 30 points in the period. Gilmer hit the first three shots of the quarter, sparking an 8-0 run for the hosts. The run grew the lead back to 13 points with 7:33 to play.
- The Bobcats tried to cut into the lead with one more run, getting within seven thanks to six points in a 1:24 span.
- Marist, however, closed out the win with another 7-0 run, again led by Gilmer.
- The Bobcats had four players in double figures as Edwards, DeWees, Herd, and Mikala Morris all scored 10 or more in the loss.
- Paige Warfel crashed the boards for 13 more rebounds as the senior continues to pace the conference in rebounding and offensive rebounding.
- After hitting four triples in the first quarter, the Bobcats hit just one more in the final 30 minutes.
- The Bobcats edged the Red Foxes in the turnover battle, forcing 17 by the hosts and only committing 14.
- Quinnipiac returns to Hamden on Saturday to renew an in-state rivalry with Fairfield. The Stags visit the People's United Center for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
