Bobcats Defeat Monmouth in Front of 3,000
HAMDEN, Conn.– First year Cur'Tiera Haywood and junior Shaq Edwards combined for 37 points to lead the Quinnipiac women's basketball team to a 60-53 victory over Monmouth in front of nearly 3,000 kids in Thursday's school day game.

- Both teams struggled out of the gate, with both teams hitting just two field goals in the game's opening 6:19.
- After a Lucy Thomas three gave Monmouth a 9-8 lead, two triples by Edwards sent Quinnipiac into the first quarter break with a 14-11 edge.
- Thomas started the second quarter with a jumper before the Bobcats scored six-straight points to extend the lead to 20-13.
- At that point, with 6:50 left before halftime, another Thomas jumper sparked a 13-1 Hawks run. The visitors used the run to take a 26-21 lead into the break.
- Despite struggling in the third quarter throughout much of the year, Quinnipiac used today's third period to take control of the game.
- The Bobcats opened the quarter on a 10-3 burst and ended the frame on a 17-2 roll. Haywood and Edwards combined for 16 points in the quarter.
- Monmouth battled through the fourth quarter, pulling within as little as six points with 2:01 remaining in regulation. The Bobcats defense locked down from that point forward and held the Hawks scoreless for the remainder of the game.
- The trio of Edwards, Haywood, and Mackenzie DeWees combined for 47 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists for the Bobcats.
- Senior Paige Warfel continued to control the glass for the Bobcats, as she pulled down 11 more rebounds, including six offensive boards.
- First-year forward Mikala Morris earned ten rebounds, hitting double-digits for the third time this season.
- The Bobcats dominated the third quarter by out-rebounding the Hawks, 19-5.
- Quinnipiac earned 30 free throws compared to just nine for Monmouth.
- The Bobcats play the third of three-straight home games on Saturday as the Canisius Golden Griffins visit the People's United Center. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be followed by a men's basketball game at 4:30.
