Bongiovanni, Tufto Nominated for Hobey Baker Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey junior Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) and sophomore Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) have been named as nominees for the 2020 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, as announced on Thursday, Jan. 16.
This year marks the 40th year of the Hobey Baker Award, which is presented to the top NCAA men's ice hockey player in the nation. Bongiovanni and Tufto are two of 16 players from ECAC Hockey nominated for the award and two of 78 in the nation.

Quinnipiac has had three players in its program history named as finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, most recently Chase Priskie '19 who reached the Top 10 last season. Reid Cashman '07 was selected as a Top 10 Finalist in 2005 while Eric Hartzell '13 was Hobey Hat Trick finalist in 2013, reaching the final three.
Tufto is once again in the midst of a fantastic season as he leads ECAC Hockey with 20 assists and is tied for second with 23 points. Nationally, Tufto is tied for fourth in assists. In addition to his work on the offensive end, Tufto is first in ECAC Hockey and tied for 13th in the nation with 225 faceoff wins along with a .560 faceoff percentage.
Earlier this season, Tufto recorded his 100th career point after recording a pair of assists against Princeton on Dec. 29. Tufto was the first junior in the nation this season to reach 100 career points, doing so in 93 games and was the first junior at Quinnipiac to reach 100 points since Sam Anas in 2015-16 in 92 games. Tufto's career average of 1.09 points per game is the most by a junior or senior in the NCAA.
Bongiovanni has been one of Quinnipiac's most prolific scorers since beginning his career in 2018-19. This season, Bongiovanni is first in ECAC Hockey with 11 goals and tied for 19th in the nation. He is fifth in the league averaging 0.52 goals per game and is also among the league leaders with four power-play goals and three game-winners.
In his career, Bongiovanni's 25 career goals rank fourth among NCAA Division I sophomores since the beginning of the 2018-19 season and is averaging 0.42 goals per game.
The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team travels to Worcester, Massachusetts, Friday night to take on the Holy Cross Crusaders at the Hart Center with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
