Incoming Bobcat Ranked No. 18 North American Skater at Midterm Rankings
HAMDEN, Conn. – Incoming Quinnipiac men's ice hockey forward Ty Smilanic has been ranked the No. 18 skater in North America in the NHL Central Scouting's midterm rankings released on Monday, Jan. 13.
As the No. 18 ranked player among North American skaters, Smilanic is the highest ranked skater to commit to Quinnipiac in program history as he projects to be a first or second round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Smilanic has played in 21 games for the United States National Under-18 Team where he has recorded four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Smilanic helped lead U.S. to the Five Nations Championship back in November with a goal and two assists as they won all four games of the tournament.
The 2020 NHL Draft is slated for June 26-27 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
Quinnipiac has had 10 players drafted prior to enrolling at Quinnipiac or while they were playing for the Bobcats, plus an additional four players who transferred into the program. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) is currently the highest drafted player in program history as he was taken in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team returns to action on Friday night as the Bobcats travel to Worcester, Massachusetts, to face the Holy Cross Crusaders at the Hart Center at 7 p.m.
