Mikala Morris Earns 17-Rebound Double-Double

HAMDEN, Conn.– Senior Taylor Herd tied a career high with 21 points and first year Mikala Morris pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds to pace Quinnipiac to a 70-58 victory over Manhattan in Saturday's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest.

Senior Jaden Ward added ten points and seven rebounds in the victory while junior Shaq Edwards returned to action with 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the victory.

GAME SUMMARY

The first quarter featured two small offensive runs, one by each team. Manhattan opened the game by scoring five points in the opening two minutes, but Quinnipiac responded with two Herd three-pointers and two free throws by Morris.
After the teams traded threes and matching two-point baskets, Ward knocked down a free throw with one second remaining to give the Bobcats an 11-10 lead at the end of the period.
Manhattan opened up the largest lead of the second quarter (5 points) with 1:59 left in the frame after a Lizahya Morgan triple, only to see the Bobcats score eight points in a row over a 50-second span.
Manhattan's Gabby Cajou knocked down a half-court shot at the buzzer to send the teams to the break knotted at 28.
Quinnipiac held a 34-33 lead with 5:30 to play in the third quarter before rattling off its largest run of the game.
A three-pointer by Jaden Ward started a 15-1 Bobcats run that spanned just under five minutes of game time.
A jumper by Morris gave the hosts a 49-34 lead with 17 seconds to play, but Manhattan's Courtney Warley closed the gap with a jumper and a free throw in the final seconds of the quarter.
Manhattan tried to chip away at the lead in the opening stages of the fourth quarter, drawing within ten after an Emily LaPointe three with 4:02 to play.
The Bobcats, however, hit nine free throws in the fourth quarter to prevent a comeback by the visitors.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Bobcats won the third quarter by a 21-9 margin after getting outscored by more than 40 combined points in the third quarter of all previous games this season.
Herd reached double digits in points for the third straight game and hit four three-pointers for the second consecutive outing.
Morris recorded 16+ rebounds for the second time this season and added 12 points, two blocks, and a steal while shooting 4-9 from the field.
Herd and Edwards combined for eight assists while committing just two turnovers on the afternoon.
Paige Warfel, the MAAC's leading rebounder, pulled down eight boards in the win.
Quinnipiac shredded the offensive end in the second half, combining to shoot 14-26 from the floor.
The Bobcats dominated the glass, out-rebounding Manhattan, 56-39, in the game.
The hosts slowed Manhattan's offensive pace, allowing just eight fastbreak points total.
