HACKENSACK, N.J. – Coming off a win against Seton Hall in their previous game, the Quinnipiac Volleyball team heads to the Knights Fall Classic, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University this weekend.
This weekend, the Bobcats will face NJIT, Fairleigh Dickinson and Morgan State.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats went south to Baltimore, Md. to play at the Morgan State Invitational this past weekend. The Bobcats went 1-2 over the weekend, falling to William & Mary and Towson on Friday. However, the Bobcats came back on Saturday morning and swept Seton Hall.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
NJIT opened its season at the Terrier Classic at St. Francis Brooklyn last weekend. The Highlanders took on St. Francis Brooklyn, Maryland-Eastern Shore and Central Michigan. NJIT lost all three matches, winning two sets in its three matches. The Highlanders also faced St. John's in their home opener, falling 3-0 in that match. Freshman Outside Hitter Sarah Merritt leads the Highlanders with 30 kills through their first four matches. Senior Setter Liz Benson leads NJIT with 94 assists on the year.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Fairleigh Dickinson kicked off the 2019 season at the NIU Invitational at Northern Illinois University last weekend. The Knights fell in all three of their matches against Northern Illinois, UC Riverside and SIU-Edwardsville. Junior Outside Hitter Magdalena Maksimovic leads the Knights with 27 kills. Sophomore Libero leads Fairleigh Dickinson in digs with 36.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Morgan State is coming off a 2-1 weekend to kick off their 2019 campaign. In the Morgan State Invitational, the Bears defeated Seton Hall and William & Mary, but fell to Towson in their final game of the invitational. The Bears also had a midweek clash against Siena, sweeping the Saints. Morgan State is paced by Outside Hitter Zoe McBride, who has 80 kills through four games. She also has a hitting percentage of .301.
PRESEASON POLL
Quinnipiac was picked to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Poll as announced by the league office on Tuesday, August 20. The Bobcats also received a first place vote for the second time in three seasons.
VETERAN LEADERSHIP
Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, P.R.), Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.), Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Kaleigh Oates (Downingtown, Pa.) return as seniors for the Bobcats. All four seniors saw significant playing time last season with all of them playing more than 80 sets over the course of the season. Rodriguez and Pansari played all 112 sets last season.
NEW FACES
The Bobcats welcome four new players to the team for the 2019 season. Freshmen Alisa Mejia (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Aryanah Diaz (Miami, Fla.) come in as college rookies. Georgia Tselepi (Athens, Greece) and Olga Zampati (Athens, Greece) come in as transfers from other Division 1 colleges. Tselepi comes to Quinnipiac after transferring from Cincinnati and Zampati comes from Oklahoma.
ROBINSON ERA IS HERE
Head Coach Kyle Robinson picked up his first win as a Bobcat in a 3-0 win against Seton Hall at the Morgan State Invitational.
