Women's Soccer Begins MAAC Play vs Canisius

Bobcats, Golden Griffs to kickoff at 1 PM in Buffalo
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's soccer team travels to Buffalo, N.Y., on Saturday, Sept. 21 to face the Canisius Golden Griffs. Both teams will play their first MAAC games of the season.

GAME NOTES
Last Time Out:
Quinnipiac faced Dartmouth in the final non-conference game of the season. The Bobcats came up short, losing 2-0, to the Big Green. Izzy Glennon and Allie Winstanley scored for Dartmouth with senior Olivia Myzsewski tallying four saves in the net for Quinnipiac.
Scouting the Canisius:
The Golden Griffs are 5-2 coming into conference play, currently holding a four-game shutout win streak. Canisius defeated Delaware State, Cleveland State, Valparaiso and St. Bonaventure over the last two weeks, recording five goals and allowing zero. Alanna Rossi has made all seven starts for the Griffs. She has allowed just four goals this season, which ranks second in the MAAC and has recorded five shutouts.
Last Year against the Griffs:
Quinnipiac and Canisius played to a 1-1 draw last season on Oct. 13. Sophomore Selena Salas scored for the Bobcats in the 74th minute of the game. Quinnipiac had a season-high 28 shots against Canisius compared to Griffs four.
Defensive Unit:
Freshman Meaghan Phillips has started in six of seven games for the Bobcats, allowing just six goals with 23 saves and three shutouts. As a team, Quinnipiac has allowed eight goals against, which is ranked fourth in the MAAC.
MAAC Play Begins:
Ten teams will begin MAAC play this weekend. Defending MAAC Champions Monmouth will take on Saint Peter's, Niagara will play Fairfield, Rider will host Siena and Iona will play Marist.
New Season, New Team:
Quinnipiac welcomes 11 newcomers to the squad, with five players coming from Ontario, four coming from New Jersey, Connecticut and Illinois, one from England and one from the Netherlands. Seventeen players will return from the 2018 roster, including Selena Salas, who received All-MAAC honors at the end of the season.
