Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Coach Recognized by Alma Mater on April 20
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey head coach Rand Pecknold was inducted into the Connecticut College Athletics Hall of Fame in a ceremony on April 20, 2019 on the Connecticut College campus.
Pecknold joined three other student-athletes from Connecticut College in their enshrinement on Saturday as they were honored with plaques to recognized their achievements.
Pecknold holds two degrees from Connecticut College, his bachelor's degree in economics which he earned in 1990 before earning a master's of arts in teaching in 1993, just one year before he was hired as the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey coach.
In his time as a player on the Camels' men's ice hockey team, Pecknold excelled as a defenseman on the team as he lead them to a 48-22-2 record in three seasons. As a senior, he was named to the All-ECAC South First Team and the Division III All-New England Team after setting single-season program records for goals (17) and points (47) by a defenseman in program history.
The Camels also won the ECAC South Championship in his senior season after back-to-back semifinal appearances in 1988 and 1989. He later went on to coach the Camels for three seasons with his head coach as a player, Doug Roberts, before joining Quinnipiac.
Since taking over the Quinnipiac program, Pecknold has taken the program to new heights. Among his achievements at Quinnipiac, the Bobcats have reached two national championship games, six NCAA Tournaments, won four ECAC Hockey Regular Season Championships and one ECAC Hockey Tournament championship.
Pecknold is also a two-time winner of the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year Award, the 2016 Spencer Penrose National Coach of the Year and was the 2005 Atlantic Hockey Coach of the Year. The Bobcats have 18 20-win seasons in his 25 years with the program, and he recorded the 500th win over his career this season with a 6-0 win vs. Colgate at Nassau Coliseum on Dec. 29, 2018.
