Bobcats Blank Explorers, Score Nine Runs Over Final Two Innings
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) homered and drove in four RBIs Sunday afternoon as the Quinnipiac baseball team routed the La Salle Explorers, 12-0, in the final game of a three-game series.
Quinnipiac's 12-0 shutout was its second shutout of 12 runs or more this season after blanking Saint Peter's 13-0 on March 23.
Bender's four RBIs are the most he's recorded in a single game in his career as he hit his first home run of the season.
Michael Kohn (Rockville, Maryland) also reached base four times with a double and drove in two RBIs and scored three runs while Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) and Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) also had two runs.
Chris Enns (Canton, Connecticut) picked up his third win of the season as he struck out six batters in five innings of work as he pitched in his first shutout of the season. The Bobcats bullpen combined for six more strikeouts as the Bobcats struck out a total of 12 batters Sunday.
The offense came alive once again, scoring nine runs in the final two innings to take a 3-0 lead to a 12-0 rout of the Explorers.

SECOND INNING
- Lutz drew a one-out walk and moved up to second as Kohn drew a two-out walk
- After a wild pitch put the two in scoring position, they both came home to score on a throwing error from the La Salle third baseman that allowed Kevin Huscher (Middleboro, Massachusetts) to take a 2-0 lead
- Scafariello led off the inning with a walk and came around to score on an RBI double from Kohn to make it 3-0 Bobcats
- The Bobcats opened up the game with four runs in the inning to take a 7-0 lead
- Kohn walked with one out on the inning and moved up to second safely as Huscher reached on a fielder's choice.
- After Huscher was forced out at second on sacrifice bunt from Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario), Kohn came home to score on a Vulgamore single through the right side that advanced Maves to third base before scoring on a wild pitch
- Bender stepped up with Vulgamore on second base and belted a two-run home run to left centerfield
- Quinnipiac scored five runs in the ninth inning to complete the rout
- Ostberg led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball
- After a Derek Kasperzyk (Killingworth, Connecticut) walk, Ostberg scored on an RBI single through the right side from Kohn
- With runners on second and third, Huscher doubled down the left field line to pick up a pair of RBIs and take a 10-0 lead
- Maves singled to put runners on the corners and swiftly stole second to put runners on second and third
- With two outs in the inning, Bender singled up the middle to score both Maves and Huscher for his fourth RBIs of the game.
- Bender's home run was his first of the season and second of his career as he recorded a career-high four RBIs
- He now has career-highs with 30 hits and 15 RBIs this season
- Bender has hit safely in eight of his last nine games
- Kohn recorded two hits in a game for the second time in his career and reached base four times in Sunday's game
- He also scored his first three runs of the season
- Vulgamore extended his hit streak to six games and has driven in an RBI in six straight games

- Ostberg extended his current hitting streak to four games as he went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored

- Quinnipiac recorded its third shutout of the season, giving the Bobcats at least three shutouts for a sixth consecutive season
- The Bobcats are back in action with a pair of midweek games back at the QU Baseball Field as they take on Yale Tuesday at 3 p.m. and Bryant on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
