HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 5/5 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team heads into the final weekend of the 2018-19 regular season to open the month of March as the Bobcats hit the road for Brown Friday night in Providence before returning to Connecticut to face Yale Saturday night in New Haven.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac split the weekend series once again as the Bobcats opened last weekend with a dominant 7-2 victory over St. Lawrence before falling in the final game of the weekend against then-No. 12/13 Clarkson, 5-3.
Scouting Brown
Brown continues to be among the hottest teams in ECAC Hockey as they are 5-2-2 in the last nine games and have really turned their season around since starting the season 1-6-1 through the first six games of the season. The Bears four-game unbeaten streak came to an end last weekend with a loss at Harvard before rebounding with a 2-0 victory at Dartmouth. Tommy Marchin continues to lead the team with eight goals, 13 assists and 21 points while Chris Berger has come on strong in league play with seven goals as well as 13 points. Luke Kania has secured the starting job with 14 games played and 13 starts this season, going 7-5-1 with a 2.45 GAA and .912 save percentage.
All-Time vs. Brown
The Bobcats' eight-game winning streak and 10-game unbeaten streak against the Bears came to an end on Feb. 9 as the Bobcats fell, 4-1, on home ice. Despite the loss, Quinnipiac remains 23-8-6 all-time in 35 games against Brown. The Bears' victory against the Bobcats earlier this season was its first since Feb. 15, 2014 in Providence.
Scouting Yale
Yale has struggled as of late, winning just twice in the last six games dating back to Feb. 8 when the Bobcats blanked the Bulldogs, 4-0. The Bulldogs come into the final weekend of the season with a 13-11-3 record and are 11-8-1 in league play. Joe Snively has been the Bulldogs' top weapon throughout the season, leading the team with 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points while his three power-play goals and two shorthanded goals are also tops on the team. Goaltending duties continue to be split amongst Sam Tucker and Corbin Kaczperski as Tucker has a 2.39 GAA and .921 save percentage while Kaczperski has a 2.54 GAA and .907 save percentage.
All-Time vs. Yale
Quinnipiac extended its impressive play against Yale in their first meeting of the season, improving to 11-1-3 in the last 15 games. The Bobcats are 21-7-5 against the Bulldogs all-time since the beginning of the 2005-06 season. Last season, the Bobcats went 2-1 at Ingalls Rink after sweeping the ECAC Hockey First Round series.
National Polls
The Bobcats moved back into the top five of both national polls despite splitting last weekend's series, moving up one spot from No. 6 to No. 5 in the USCHO.com Division I Poll and remaining No. 5 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Division I Men's College Hockey Poll. Quinnipiac is ranked in the top five for the sixth time this season.
Weekly Awards
Freshman Wyatt Bongiovanni was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for the third time in his career on Monday as he took home the league honor. Bongiovanni was previously named the rookie of the week on Nov. 19 and Feb. 4 before this weekend.
Looking for First
Quinnipiac comes into the weekend with an eye on first-place in the league standings as the Bobcats are tied for second and are just one point behind Cornell for the league lead. The Bobcats need just two points to clinch a first-round bye in the ECAC Hockey playoffs, looking for their first bye since the 2015-16 season.
Bracketology
Once again, Quinnipiac is slated to be a two-seed in the NCAA Tournament, checking in the most recent Bracketology report as the No. 2 team in the East Regional in Providence, taking on the Providence Friars. Denver and Cornell were also tabbed for that region in the latest release.
Priskie's Pressing
Chase Priskie led ECAC Hockey with three goals and four points on the weekend, continuing his impressive senior campaign. Priskie's 17 goals are the fourth most by a defenseman in the last 20 years, trailing only Colorado College's Tom Preissing's 23 goals from 2002-03, Minnesota's Jordan Leopold's 20 goals from the 2001-02 season and Wisconsin's Justin Schultz's 18 goals from the 2010-11 season.
Last weekend, Priskie recorded his 39th career goal to pass Ed Muzyka '86 for the most goals by a defenseman in program history. Priskie also ranks second in program history among defenseman with 77 assists and 116 points. Among all defenseman in the nation, Priskie leads the nation in career goals, power-play goals and points while his assists are second.
That's Fun to Say

Bongiovanni's hat trick is the third of the season for the Bobcats and Quinnipiac has recorded all three hat tricks by ECAC Hockey players this season.
Third Time's the Charm
Brogan Rafferty recorded four points this past weekend, including a three-assist game against St. Lawrence for his second three-assist game of the season and third of his career. Rafferty has picked up the pace as of late, recording five assists over his last three games.
Elite Company
Odeen Tufto extended his point streak to a career-high seven games on Friday night with a pair of assists before his streak came to an end Saturday night. Tufto is up to 41 points for a second consecutive season, becoming Quinnipiac's first player with back-to-back 40-point seasons since Reid Cashman '07. He is also the first Quinnipiac player since Sam Anas '16 to record 40 points in a career. At this point in the 2018-19 season, Tufto is one of just two players to record 40 points in back-to-back seasons, joining Michigan State's Taro Hirose.
