HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team concludes their 2019 regular season schedule as they head to western New York to take on Niagara and Canisius. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats wrapped up their 2019 home slate as they welcomed Siena to Hamden on Wednesday night. The Bobcats defeated the Saints in three sets. Olga Zampati led the Bobcats offensively with 17 kills in the match. With the victory, the Bobcats clinched a spot in the MAAC Tournament.
 
SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES
Niagara currently sits at 11-5 in the conference, which places them in second place in the conference. They won their last match they played as they swept Siena. Niagara has recorded a .203 hitting percentage, while they are allowing their opponents a .226 hitting percentage to their opponents. Two Niagara players are neck and neck in terms of leading the team offensively. Jaycie Roberts has recorded 266 kills to lead the team. Caroline Leitch is right behind her with 256 kills on the season.
 
LAST MATCHUP VS. NIAGARA
The Purple Eagles took the first matchup between the two teams this season by a score of 3-1. Niagara won the first set, but the Bobcats came right back in the second to tie the match at one. Niagara went on to win the next two sets to take home the victory. Three Bobcats recorded double-digit kill in the defeat, and Aryanah Diaz dished out 27 assists.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
Canisius currently sits in fifth in the conference, which means they sit fifth in the conference. They won the last match that they played as they defeated Marist is five sets. MAAC Preseason Player of the Yeah Leah Simmons leads the Golden Griffins with 313 kills on the season, and she possesses a .276 hitting percentage. Cassidy Ceriani dishes out the assists for Cansius as she has recorded 899 on the season.
 
LAST MATCHUP VS. CANISIUS
The Bobcats took the first matchup between the two teams this season by a score of 3-1. The Bobcats dropped the first set of the match, but then rattled off three straight set wins to take the match. Olga Zampati led the charge for the Bobcats with 12 kills. The Bobcats held Leah Simmons to only nine kills in the victory.
 
MAAC TOURNAMENT TICKET PUNCHED
With the victory over Siena on Wednesday night, the Bobcats clinched their spot in the MAAC Tournament, which is going to be hosted by Fairfield University. The Bobcats currently sit in the sixth seed, but they can move up to fifth with two wins this weekend and two losses from Canisius this weekend.
 
BAKER'S BALLING OUT
Sophomore Outside Hitter Maggie Baker led the Bobcats offensively against Iona and Manhattan. Baker began the weekend on Saturday by posting 15 kills against Iona. She came back on Saturday and posted a career-high 25 kills against Manhattan on Sunday. She posted her third straight game of double-digit kills with 19 against Marist.
TRIPLE-DOUBLE DIAZ
First-year Outside Hitter Aryanah Diaz recorded her first career triple-double against New Hampshire. Diaz finished with 20 digs, 16 assists and 14 kills. Her triple-double was the first Quinnipiac volleyball triple-double recorded since 2007. Diaz recorded her second career triple-double on Sunday, October 13 against Saint Peter's. She recorded her third triple-double at Manhattan on Saturday, November 2. Diaz has three of the four triple doubles recorded by MAAC players this season.
OUTSTANDING OATES
Senior Middle Blocker Kaleigh Oates was named MAAC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, September 10. She received this honor for her play at the Knights Fall Classic. Oates currently leads all MAAC attackers with a .396 hitting percentage.
 
PRESEASON POLL
Quinnipiac was picked to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Poll as announced by the league office on Tuesday, August 20. The Bobcats also received a first place vote for the second time in three seasons.
 
VETERAN LEADERSHIP
Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, P.R.), Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.), Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Kaleigh Oates (Downingtown, Pa.) return as seniors for the Bobcats. All four seniors saw significant playing time last season with all of them playing more than 80 sets over the course of the season. Rodriguez and Pansari played all 112 sets last season.
 
NEW FACES
The Bobcats welcome four new players to the team for the 2019 season. First-year players Alisa Mejia (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Aryanah Diaz (Miami, Fla.) come in as college rookies. Georgia Tselepi (Athens, Greece) and Olga Zampati (Athens, Greece) come in as transfers from other Division I colleges. Tselepi comes to Quinnipiac after transferring from Cincinnati and Zampati comes from Oklahoma.
 
ROBINSON ERA IS HERE
Head Coach Kyle Robinson picked up his first win as a Bobcat in a 3-0 win against Seton Hall at the Morgan State Invitational.
