HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team is back home after back-to-back road weekends as the Bobcats host the Union Dutchmen and the Rensselaer Engineers in the first home weekend of ECAC Hockey play.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac opened up its slate of ECAC Hockey games on the road last weekend at Dartmouth and Harvard. The Bobcats recorded a tie to open the league slate at the Big Green on Friday before falling at the Crimson, 7-2, to close out the weekend. Nick Jermain had a goal in each game to lead the Bobcats.
Scouting Union
The Dutchmen have struggled so far in the 2019-20 as they sport a 2-10-0 record and 1-3-0 mark in ECAC Hockey play. Union opened the season with a seven-game losing streak before winning back-to-back games at Rensselaer and Canisius. Since those two wins, the Dutchmen have lost three straight, including league contest at Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Anthony Rinaldi leads the team with five points on two goals and three assists through 12 games while Zachary Emelifeonwu leads the Dutchmen with three goals. Additionally, Sean Harrison and Sam Morton are the only two skaters with multiple goals this season. Darion Hanson has struggle between the pipes with a 3.38 GAA and .894 save percentage as he has started all 12 games. The power play has also struggled this season at 7.7 percent while the penalty kill has been solid at 84.3 percent.
All-Time vs. Union
Quinnipiac holds a one-game edge on Union in their all-time series with a record of 18-17-5 in 40 all-time meetings. The Bobcats went 0-1-1 against the Dutchmen last season, falling 5-1 at home before skating to a 1-1 tie in Schenectady. Despite the advantage in the all-time series, Quinnipiac is 0-5-2 in its last seven games against Union and is looking for its first win over the Dutchmen since a 5-0 win on Jan. 7, 2016.
Scouting Rensselaer
The Engineers are a much improved team in the 2019-20 season, owning a 4-4-0 record and 2-2-0 mark in ECAC Hockey play. Rensselaer split last weekend with a 6-2 win over St. Lawrence before falling to Clarkson, 2-1, in a tight contest. Rensselaer is 3-2 in its last five games and have given up just two goals in all five of those games. Will Reilly, Patrick Polino and Chase Zieky are all tied for the team lead with four goals while Reilly leads the team with nine points. Three of Reilly's goals have come in ECAC Hockey play. Owen Savory continues to dominate between the pipes for the Engineers as he owns a 2.36 GAA and .917 save percentage with a 3-3-0 record. Rensselaer has also been among the best special teams units in the nation with a power play at 26.7 percent and penalty kill at 89.7 percent.
All-Time vs. Rensselaer
The Bobcats continue to dominate the all-time series with Rensselaer with an impressive 17-7-9 record in 33 games dating back to the first-ever meeting between the two programs in 1999. Quinnipiac swept last season's series with a 3-0 win at home and 2-1 on the road, and are 12-1-3 in the last 16 meetings since the beginning of the 2011-12 season.

There are plenty of great promotions surrounding this weekend's contests. Friday is Quinnipiac's Salute to Service game where the Bobcats will unveil brand new camo jerseys. Rand's Winning Ways
Head coach Rand Pecknold continues to approach milestone wins in his career. In addition to having 515 wins to rank 12th all-time among Division I Men's Hockey coaches, he is just 12 wins from passing former men's and women's tennis head coach Mike Quitko for the most wins by a coach in Quinnipiac Athletics history. Pecknold and Quitko are the only two Quinnipiac coaches to record 500 wins with Quinnipiac programs.
Just Jermain
Nick Jermain scored goals in back-to-back games for the Bobcats over the weekend, his third straight season recording goals in back-to-back games. Jermain netted a power-play goal at Dartmouth on Friday for his first career power-play goal before adding an even strength tally the next night. Jermain is second on the Bobcats and tied for sixth in ECAC Hockey with four goals on the season.
100 Games
Saturday night will mark the 100th career game for Nick Jermain as he looks to become the 90th player in program history to skate in at least 100 games. Jermain has 18 goals in 98 career games so far for the Bobcats while his 98 games ranks third on the Bobcats active roster behind Karlis Cukste (123 games) and Alex Whelan (116 games).
Tufto's Tear
Odeen Tufto continues to be a point machine as he leads ECAC Hockey with 11 assists on the season and is tied for third in the nation. Tufto is also tied for second in the league with 11 points. He has recorded an assist in seven straight games, tied for the longest point streak of his career which he set last season.
Century Mark on the Horizon
Tufto is also on the quest to record his 100th career point as he comes into the weekend with 94 points in 85 games played, averaging over a point per game in his career. Tufto would become the 41st player in program history to record 100 points after Chase Priskie reached the mark last season. Tufto also comes into the weekend with 70 career assists, tied for 23rd in program history with David Jensen '87 and Dan Ennis '03.
Tufto's 94 career points are tied for 13th among active NCAA Division I men's ice hockey players while his 70 assists are tied for sixth.
