HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team concludes their 2019 home slate with a Wednesday night matchup with Siena. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats welcomed two teams to Hamden over the past weekend. On Saturday, the Bobcats took on Saint Peter's and defeated them in straight sets to win their third consecutive match. The Bobcats played great defense at the net holding the Peacocks to a .061 hitting percentage. On Sunday, the Bobcats fell to Rider in three sets. After the game, the Bobcats celebrated Senior Day and honored the four seniors, Alejandra Rodriguez, Lauren Miller, Maria Pansari and Kaleigh Oates.
 
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Siena sits two games back of the final MAAC tournament berth with a 5-10 conference record. They have lost four of their last five MAAC matches. As a team, the Saints are tied for fifth in the MAAC in hitting percentage a .181. They are seventh in the conference in opponent hitting percentage with a .216. Freshman Ally Reese-Williams leads Siena offensively with 217 kills on the season.
 
LAST MATCHUP VS. SIENA
The last matchup between the two teams was the season's MAAC opener. The Saints took the win in a hard fought five set match. Maggie Baker led the Bobcats offensively with 18 kills and Aryanah Diaz dished out 35 assists. Five Bobcats recorded double-digit digs in the loss.
 
MAAC TOURNAMENT OUTLOOK
With three games left in the MAAC schedule, the Bobcats sit in sixth, which is a MAAC tournament qualification spot. The Bobcats have a two game cushion on Siena, and they are two and a half games behind fifth place Marist, who has a 10-6 conference record. This year's MAAC Tournament will be hosted by Fairfield University on November 22-24.
 
BAKER'S BALLING OUT
Sophomore Outside Hitter Maggie Baker led the Bobcats offensively against Iona and Manhattan. Baker began the weekend on Saturday by posting 15 kills against Iona. She came back on Saturday and posted a career-high 25 kills against Manhattan on Sunday. She posted her third straight game of double-digit kills with 19 against Marist.
TRIPLE-DOUBLE DIAZ
First-year Outside Hitter Aryanah Diaz recorded her first career triple-double against New Hampshire. Diaz finished with 20 digs, 16 assists and 14 kills. Her triple-double was the first Quinnipiac volleyball triple-double recorded since 2007. Diaz recorded her second career triple-double on Sunday, October 13 against Saint Peter's. She recorded her third triple-double at Manhattan on Saturday, November 2. Diaz has three of the four triple doubles recorded by MAAC players this season.
OUTSTANDING OATES
Senior Middle Blocker Kaleigh Oates was named MAAC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, September 10. She received this honor for her play at the Knights Fall Classic. Oates currently leads all MAAC attackers with a .396 hitting percentage.
 
PRESEASON POLL
Quinnipiac was picked to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Poll as announced by the league office on Tuesday, August 20. The Bobcats also received a first place vote for the second time in three seasons.
 
VETERAN LEADERSHIP
Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, P.R.), Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.), Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Kaleigh Oates (Downingtown, Pa.) return as seniors for the Bobcats. All four seniors saw significant playing time last season with all of them playing more than 80 sets over the course of the season. Rodriguez and Pansari played all 112 sets last season.
 
NEW FACES
The Bobcats welcome four new players to the team for the 2019 season. First-year players Alisa Mejia (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Aryanah Diaz (Miami, Fla.) come in as college rookies. Georgia Tselepi (Athens, Greece) and Olga Zampati (Athens, Greece) come in as transfers from other Division I colleges. Tselepi comes to Quinnipiac after transferring from Cincinnati and Zampati comes from Oklahoma.
 
ROBINSON ERA IS HERE
Head Coach Kyle Robinson picked up his first win as a Bobcat in a 3-0 win against Seton Hall at the Morgan State Invitational.
