Women's Soccer to Play Marist in First Round of MAAC Championship

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's soccer team is set to face the Marist Red Foxes in the first round of the MAAC Women's Soccer Championship. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

GAME NOTES
Last Time Out:
Quinnipiac hosted the Siena Saints in the regular season finale and won, 2-1. Senior Ally Grunstein and sophomore Selena Salas both scored in the win. Grunstein led the team with a season-high 10 shots. First-year Meaghan Phillips and senior Olivia Myszewski split time between the posts and registered four saves and two saves, respectively.
A Look at the MAAC Playoffs:
Monmouth and Fairfield have secured the first and second place seeds, each earning a bye in the first round of the MAAC Women's Soccer Championship. Rider claimed the third seed and will host #6 Niagara on Sunday, Nov. 3. The higher-seeded team that wins on Sunday will then face Fairfield on Thursday, Nov. 7, and the lower-seeded winning team will play Monmouth on Thursday, Nov. 7, as well.
Bobcats Playoff Breakdown:
The Bobcats have advanced to postseason four seasons in a row. Since joining the MAAC in 2013, the Bobcats are 3-4-0 overall in postseason play. The Bobcats advanced to the championship game in 2016 and lost to Monmouth.
Scouting Marist:
The Red Foxes finished the regular season in the fourth seed with an identical conference record as Quinnipiac at 5-4-1. The Red Foxes, however, held the tiebreaker between the two teams. Marist ended the regular season with a 1-0 loss to Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y. The Red Foxes' keeper, Natalie Kelchner is ranked right behind first-year Meaghan Phillips (0.88) with a 0.94 goals against average.

Quinnipiac holds an all-time record of 2-3-2 against Marist. Back on Oct. 2 of this year, Quinnipiac dropped a tight contest to Marist, 1-0. Sunday's postseason game will be the first time the two teams have met in a playoff game.
Underclassmen Leading:
Sophomore Selena Salas leads the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists, which was an improvement by one point from her first-year season. First-year Olivia Scott is second on the team in scoring with three goals and four assists for 10 points.
Phillips in the Net:
Freshman Meaghan Phillips has tallied five shutouts on the season. She is currently tied with Gwen Miller '93 in the 10th spot for the program's single-season shutout record. Kate Mockaitis '94 and Chloe Beizer '07 hold the program's record with seven shutouts in one season. Phillips has totaled a 0.88 goals against average and 0.814 save percentage, which ranks second and third in the conference, respectively.
