Salas, Kron score in 3-2 win over the Red Foxes, Bobcats advance to MAAC Semifinals

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac women's soccer team defeated the Marist Red Foxes, 3-2, in a thrilling comeback and will move on to the MAAC Semifinals. Sophomore Selena Salas scored two goals in the second half to tie the game, 2-2. Sophomore Gretchen Kron scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to send the No. 5 Bobcats past the No. 4 Red Foxes in the first round of the MAAC Championship.

This is the only game where Quinnipiac has come back to win after being down 2-0 in any round of the MAAC Championship since becoming a member of the conference in 2013. Quinnipiac was down, 2-0, with 25 minutes remaining in the second half. Fourteen seconds after the Red Foxes scored the second goal of the game, Salas scored off a cross from senior Ally Grunstein to cut Marist's lead to one. Salas scored off a set-piece five minutes later to tie the game, and Kron recorded the game-winner with six minutes left to play.

SCORING SUMMARY

First Half

(32' – Quinnipiac 0, Marist 1): Marist's Victoria Colatosti scored off a counter attack by the Red Foxes. Colaosti dribbled down the left line into the box and scored on the bottom right corner.

Second Half

(65' – Quinnipiac 0, Marist 2): Colatosti scored her second goal of the game to take the Marist lead to 2-0.
(65' – Quinnipiac 1, Marist 2): Fourteen seconds after Marist's second goal, Salas scored off a cross from Grunstein.
(70' – Quinnipiac 2, Marist 2): Salas scored her second goal of the game off a set-piece right above the penalty box to tie the game at 2-2.
(84' – Quinnipiac 2, Marist 2): Kron made a run into the box and tipped a cross from Grunstein into the bottom left corner past Marist's Natalie Kelchner. Kron scored the game-winner to push the Bocbats past the Red Foxes, 3-2.

NOTES

Salas added her fifth and sixth goals of the year.
Kron scored her third goal of the year.
Grunstein tallied assists on two of the three Bobcat goals for eight total on the year.
The Bobcats out shot the Red Foxes 11-4.
First-year Meaghan Phillips tallied two saves and earned her ninth win of the season. She is now tied for fifth in the program's single-season record book with nine wins in the net.
