HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team wraps up the 2019 season Friday afternoon as the Bobcats host the Temple Owls at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium in the final game.
Scouting Temple
The Owls have won two of their last three BIG EAST contests with wins at Georgetown and against Villanova. Despite losing four of their last five games, all four losses for Temple have come by just one goal. Two of the Owls one-goal losses came at #19 Old Dominion and at #18 Rutgers. Dani Batze leads Temple with six goals and 12 points on the season while five different players have scored two goals this season. Cristina Carotenuto has had a strong season in cage for the Owls, posting a 6-9-0 record with four shutouts, a 1.54 GAA and .733 save percentage.
All-Time vs. Temple
Quinnipiac owns a 2-1 record all-time against Temple with all three meetings coming since the Bobcats joined the BIG EAST for the 2016 season. The Bobcats have won two straight against the Owls, including last season's 5-2 win in Philadelphia. The last time these two teams met in Hamden, the Bobcats came away with a 1-0 win.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats split last weekend with a loss in BIG EAST play at #19 Old Dominion, 4-0, before bouncing back with a 5-2 win against Brown in the pouring rain. Mack Vorel started both games, making 16 total saves while Bianka Strubbe led the team with two goasl and five points.
Milestone Win
Sunday's win was the 200th career victory for head coach Becca Main, making her the 44th Division I Field Hockey coach to earn 200 career victories. Main has earned all 200 of her wins as the head coach at Quinnipiac in her 25 year career.
Mack Attack
Mack Vorel made eight saves in each game over the weekend as she made her fourth straight start for the Bobcats, with her eight saves tied for her second-most in a game in her career. Vorel continues to lead the team with a .760 save percentage and has a 2.64 GAA. She leads the BIG EAST averaging 5.70 saves per game while her .760 save percentage is second in the league.

Bianka Strubbe scored two goals within 10 minutes of each other Sunday afternoon as she continues her impressive 2019 season. Strubbe's eight goals this season are the most by a Bobcat since the 2016 season when Savanna Reilly had nine goals and Dayna Barlow had eight. She has a chance to be Quinnipiac's first 10-goal scorer since Jess Rusin in 2013. Strubbe is tied for seventh in the BIG EAST with eight goals, eighth with 0.50 goals per game, 10th averaging 1.19 points per game and is tied for fourth with 53 total shots.
Dugan's Doin' It
Mikayla Dugan tallied her first career goal with a beautiful redirect in the final penalty corner Sunday. Dugan is the fifth different Bobcat to record her first career goal this season.
A Cappello
Julianna Cappello got on the board with her fourth tally of the season to move into second on the team with eight points and four goals. Cappello's goal against Brown was her first in non-conference play after three goals in against BIG EAST opponents.
Whip It
Brooke Whipkey recorded her first goal of the 2019 season Sunday as she scored the first goal of the game. Whipkey kicked off the Bobcats scoring barrage as they scored their most goals of the 2019 season.
Elite Inès
Inès Ruiz Martinez continued to dish the ball well as she tallied her team-leading sixth assist of the season and has the third-most points on the team. Her six assists are a career-high after surpassing her freshman year of five, while her six points are tied for second in a season in her career.
Eva's Extra Helpful
Freshman Eva Veldhorst tallied two assists for her first two-helper game of her career on Sunday. Veldhorst now has four points on the season with a goal and two assists and has started all 17 games.
Howard's Helping Hand
Olivia Howard also recorded the first assist of her career as she assisted Strubbe's first goal. Howard has played in 16 of the Bobcats 17 games this season now has a goal and an assist.
