Cappello's Two Goals Leads Field Hockey to OT Victory Over Temple

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team ended their season with a victory as they defeated the Temple Owls 3-2 in double overtime.
First-year forward Julianna Cappello (Mohegan Lake, New York) scored two of the Bobcats three goals in the win, with her second tally good for the game-winner with 5:38 to go in the second overtime period.

- 0:59 – 1st (Quinnipiac 0, Temple 1): The Owls received an early penalty corner and they took advantage as Becky Gerhart scored on a pass from Kathryn Edgar to give the Owls the early lead.
- 25:14 – 2nd (Quinnipiac 1, Temple 1): Cappello put home her own rebound to score her fifth goal of the season. The goal was under a lengthy video review, but stood following the review.
- 58:04 – 4th (Quinnipiac 1, Temple 2): Temple executed a counter-attack off a Quinnipiac penalty corner. Claire Thomas scored off a tip in front of the goal. Mia Sexton added the assist on the goal.
- 58:35 – 4th (Quinnipiac 2, Temple 2): With the goalie pulled, the Bobcats received a penalty corner. Graduate student Bianke Strubbe (Wroclaw, Poland) wasted no time to tie the game up as she scored the goal off assists from seniors Valerie Perkins (Mohegan Lake, New York) and Inès Ruiz Martinez (Madrid, Spain).
- 74:22 – 2OT (Quinnipiac 3, Temple 2): Redshirt Sophomore Brooke Whipkey (Charlotte, North Carolina) drove the ball down field and passed the ball in front to Julianna Cappello who scored and gave the Bobcats the victory.
- Quinnipiac outshot Temple 19-14, including 10-6 in shots on goal.
- Quinnipiac received six penalty corners.
- First-year goalkeeper Mack Vorel (Mendham, New Jersey) made four saves in the victory to finish the season with a .753 save percentage and 2.45 GAA.
- Cappello scored two goals to give her six goals in her first season as a Bobcat, good for second on the team.
- Five of Cappello's six goals came against BIG EAST competition.
- Perkins and Ruiz Martinez each added assists in their final games as Bobcats as Ruiz Martinez had a career-high seven helpers this season while Perkins finished with a career-high four.
- Ruiz Martinez also tied her career-high for points in a season with seven while Perkins recorded her 10th career assist.
- Strubbe's game-tying goal with 1:25 remaining in regulation was her ninth of the season, tied for the most by a Bobcat since Savanna Reilly '17 scored nine goals a senior in the 2016 season.
- Whipkey's assist on Cappello's game-winner was her second helper of the season and fourth point
- With the overtime victory, the Bobcats finished the season with a 2-1 record in games that went past regulation.
