HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team welcomes in-state rival Fairfield for a Saturday afternoon tilt. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
During the match, the Bobcats will be recognizing Paint Hamden Pink, a town wide initiative that builds awareness and raises funds for this very important cause.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats welcomed Canisius and Niagara to Hamden this past weekend. The Bobcats took on Canisius on Saturday afternoon and took home a 3-1 victory against the Preseason MAAC favorites. The Bobcats played a strong game at the net recording two solo blocks and 16 assisted blocks. They also held Canisius to a .073 hitting percentage. The Bobcats came back on Sunday to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles and Niagara came out on top 3-1. Three Bobcats recorded double digit kills to lead the offense for the Bobcats.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
Fairfield is currently on a 12 match win streak and sits atop the MAAC with a 9-0 record. The Stags lead the MAAC in seven statistical categories and many of their players are among the conference leaders in statistical categories.
LAST MATCHUP VS. FAIRFIELD
The Bobcats took the trip down I-95 to take on the Stags at Alumni Hall earlier this season. The Bobcats fell 3-0, but held leads deep into sets two and three. Aryanah Diaz recorded a double-double with 19 digs and 10 kills in the match.
LYDIA LEADS
Sophomore Lydia Jones currently leads the MAAC in blocks per set with 0.98 blocks. She has recorded 43 blocks in 44 sets.
BAKER'S BALLING OUT
Sophomore Outside Hitter Maggie Baker led the Bobcats offensively against Iona and Manhattan. Baker began the weekend on Saturday by posting 15 kills against Iona. She came back on Saturday and posted a career-high 25 kills against Manhattan on Sunday. She posted her third straight game of double-digit kills with 19 against Marist.
TRIPLE-DOUBLE DIAZ
Freshman Outside Hitter Aryanah Diaz recorded her first career triple-double against New Hampshire. Diaz finished with 20 digs, 16 assists and 14 kills. Her triple-double was the first Quinnipiac volleyball triple-double recorded since 2007. Diaz recorded her second career triple-double on Sunday, October 13 against Saint Peter's. Diaz has two of the three triple doubles recorded by MAAC players this season.
OUTSTANDING OATES
Senior Middle Blocker Kaleigh Oates was named MAAC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, September 10. She received this honor for her play at the Knights Fall Classic. Oates currently leads all MAAC attackers with a .401 hitting percentage.
PRESEASON POLL
Quinnipiac was picked to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Poll as announced by the league office on Tuesday, August 20. The Bobcats also received a first place vote for the second time in three seasons.
VETERAN LEADERSHIP
Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, P.R.), Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.), Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Kaleigh Oates (Downingtown, Pa.) return as seniors for the Bobcats. All four seniors saw significant playing time last season with all of them playing more than 80 sets over the course of the season. Rodriguez and Pansari played all 112 sets last season.
NEW FACES
The Bobcats welcome four new players to the team for the 2019 season. Freshmen Alisa Mejia (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Aryanah Diaz (Miami, Fla.) come in as college rookies. Georgia Tselepi (Athens, Greece) and Olga Zampati (Athens, Greece) come in as transfers from other Division 1 colleges. Tselepi comes to Quinnipiac after transferring from Cincinnati and Zampati comes from Oklahoma.
ROBINSON ERA IS HERE
Head Coach Kyle Robinson picked up his first win as a Bobcat in a 3-0 win against Seton Hall at the Morgan State Invitational.
