Women's Soccer Welcomes Niagara to Hamden for Senior Day

Nine seniors will be recognized before kickoff at 12 PM
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's soccer team will host the Niagara Purple Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Purple Eagles will come to Hamden with a 6-5-1 overall record after a 3-0 loss to Marist on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The Bobcats are coming off a 3-0 win against Fairfield. Quinnipiac will honor nine seniors before kickoff on Saturday starting at approximately 11:45.

Last Time Out:
The Bobcats traveled to in-state rival Fairfield on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and downed the Stags, 3-0. Three different Bobcats scored in the shutout win including, sophomore Emily Loney, freshman Markela Bejleri and freshman Olivia Scott. Freshman keeper Meaghan Phillips tallied her fourth shutout of the season. The Bobcats broke the Stags' three-game winning streak and were the only team to score three goals since Bryant did on Sept. 12.
Scouting Niagara:
The Purple Eagles currently sit in the sixth spot in the MAAC standings with a 2-3 record. Niagara is coming off a 3-0 loss at Marist. Annie Ibey leads the team with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Sabrina Locas has started and played in 11 games between the posts for the Purple Eagles. She has tallied a 1.34 goals against average with a 0.766 save percentage.
Last Year against the Purple Eagles:
Quinnipiac holds an all-time record of 2-3-1 against Niagara. In 2018, the Bobcats defeated the Purple Eagles, 3-0, in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
Freshmen Front:
The Bobcats underclassmen stepped up to send the team past the Fairfield Stags on Oct. 9. Bejleri and Scott both scored their second goals of the season. Bejleri now has six points on the season with two goals and two assists, and Scott has tallied seven points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore Selena Salas also leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore Emily Loney notched her first goal of the season and the game-winner against the Stags.
Phillips in the Net:
Freshman Meaghan Phillips has four shutouts on the season, which leads the MAAC. She is one shutout away from tying Gwen Miller with five shutouts in a season. She has totaled a 0.91 goals against average and 0.811 save percentage.
A Look at the MAAC Standings:
The Monmouth Hawks sit at the top of the conference standings with a 5-0 record. Rider is the only other unbeaten team. (4-0-1), and Fairfield holds the third spot with a 3-1 record. Marist and Siena hold the fourth and fifth spots, each with a 2-2-1 record, and Niagara sits in sixth with a 2-3 record. Quinnipiac is in the middle of the pack with a 2-3 record, followed by Canisius, Saint Peter's, Manhattan and Iona.
