QU Men's Ice Hockey Advances To ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals With 4-1 Win at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team advanced to ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals after defeating the Yale Bulldogs 3-1 on Saturday, sweeping the opening round series against its in-state rival. The Bobcats are now 16-16-4 on the year while the Bulldogs finish their season with a record of 15-15-1.

- 4:41 2nd Period (Quinnipiac 1, Yale 0): Junior captain Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) finished a one-timer after a beautiful back-handed pass from behind the goal from freshman Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota). Junior John Furgele (Glen Mills, Pennsylvania) also recorded an assist on the play
- 11:51 2nd Period (Quinnipiac 2, Yale 0): Odeen Tufto launched a wrist shot from the left circle after a Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) pass from down in the right corner. Nick Jermain (Norwalk, Connecticut) sent the puck down to MacMaster.
- 10:43 3rd Period (Quinnipiac 3, Yale 0): Sophomore Brogan Rafferty (Dundee, Illinois) beat Corbin Kaczperski with a backhanded shot through the five-hole after passes from Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut) and Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia).
- 13:22 3rd Period (Quinnipiac 3, Yale 1): Kevin O'Neil found the back of the net with a wrister from the slot.
- 19:00 3rd Period (Quinnipiac 4, Yale 1): Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) delivered the knock-out blow with an empty-net goal with just a minute to play. The goal was the sophomore's team-leading 16th of the season. Rafferty picked up an assist after removing the puck from a Yale defender's stick and passing it to Whelan.
- Tufto recorded his first career playoffs point with a goal and an assist.
- Tufto now has nine goals and 32 assists for 41 points on the season. He becomes the first Quinnipiac freshman to reach the 40-point mark since Sam Anas did so during the 2013-14 season and the sixth Bobcat to accomplish the feat.
- Tufto's 32 assists ties the program record for most assists by a freshman. He currently shares the record with Brian Herbert, who set the mark in 2000.
- Priskie netted both game-winning goals for the Bobcats in the sweep against Yale. The goal was the captain's fourth of his playoff career and 11th of the season.
- MacMaster now has 20 assists on the season and 54 for his career. He now has eight career playoff assists and nine career playoff points.
- Furgele tallied his 12th assist of the season and picked up his first point of the postseason.
- Jermain recorded his ninth assist of the year, the second of his playoff career.
- Whelan netted his fourth - career goal in the playoffs for the Bobcats with the empty netter. He had three in a series in the Bobcats' ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals win against Saint Lawrence in 2017.
- Rafferty scored his first-career playoff goal tonight for Quinnipiac and tallied his second assist in postseason play. He now has five goals and 19 points so far this season.
- Freshman Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) recorded his second career playoff victory in as many starts. He made 20 saves on the night.
- This is the 13th consecutive year that the Bobcats have advanced to the ECAC Quarterfinals, making the Bobcats winners of a postseason series in each of its 13 years in ECAC Hockey. In addition, the Bobcsts have won a postseason series in every season at the Division I level- an incredible run of 20 consecutive years.
- Quinnipiac improved to 18-3 all-time in the First Round of the ECAC Tournament, 4-0 on the road.
