HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team will look to bounce back from an opening-day defeat in overtime when it welcomes Brown to the new Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday for a 12 p.m. contest. The Bears, who are currently ranked No. 17 in Inside Lacrosse and No. 20 in the USILA Coaches poll, will be opening their season against the Bobcats.
LAST GAME (UMass Lowell 13, Quinnipiac 12 - OT)
Quinnipiac led by five goals midway through the third quarter but couldn't hang on as UMass Lowell came all the way back to take a 13-12 win in overtime on Sunday in the first-ever game at the new, 1,500-seat Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium. The final score marked the only time in the entire game that the River Hawks held a lead after the Bobcats jumped out to a 5-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter (behind five different goal scorers). Freshman Jake Tomsik led the way offensively for Quinnipiac with four goals and an assist, while junior Matt Frost and senior Brian Feldman each had two goals. Senior goalie Carson Cocco had 13 saves in his first career start, while senior long-stick midfielder Adam Bellamy led the Bobcats with seven ground balls.
TOMSIK NAMED MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman attack Jake Tomsik was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday after a strong effort in his collegiate debut. Tomsik finished the UMass Lowell game with four goals, scoring on all four of his shot attempts, and added an assist to classmate Sam Witt for the first goal ever scored at the new Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium.
FOUR PLAYERS HONORED BY MAAC IN PRESEASON POLL
The Bobcats had four players who were chosen to the Preseason All-MAAC team, which was released on Jan. 31. Junior Foster Cuomo and senior Riley Palmer were All-MAAC selections, while senior Adam Bellamy was the Preseason Long-Stick Midfielder of the Year and senior Will Vitelli was the Preseason Face-Off Specialist of the Year. As a team, the Bobcats were picked third behind preseason favorite and defending champion Monmouth in first and Marist in second.
QUINNIPIAC NAMES 2018 CAPTAINS
Quinnipiac will have five seniors who will share the captain duties for the 2018 season, as announced in January by Head Coach Eric Fekete. Defenseman Riley Palmer, long-stick midfielder Adam Bellamy, and midfielders Blaise Buffalino, Ryan Corcoran and David Glynn will serve as team captains for their final collegiate seasons.
SENIOR CLASS
If the Bobcats are to return to the form that earned them the 2016 MAAC Championship two years ago, it will be largely due to the leadership of a very large senior class. Last season, Quinnipiac had only four seniors, but this year, Senior Day ceremonies will take a little longer, with a total of 14 seniors on the roster.
FELDMAN A HAT TRICK AWAY
Senior Brian Feldman enters the Brown game on the cusp of an historic milestone. After scoring twice on opening day against UMass Lowell on Sunday, Feldman now has 97 goals through his first three seasons, needing only three more to reach the 100-goal mark. Only three players in Quinnipiac history have scored 100 goals, and none in the last 16 years. Twin brothers Mike Baglio '02 (144) and Joe Baglio '02 (140) are the only Bobcats to score 100 goals entirely at the Division I level. Alan LoGiudice '01 (117) played his final three years in Division I, but scored 37 goals as a freshman at the Division II level. Three goals in a game is certainly well within Feldman's reach, as he has 17 hat tricks in his Quinnipiac career, including one in a loss at Brown in the season opener a year ago.

STRONG FINISH FOR CUOMO
Junior Foster Cuomo moved up to attack from midfield in the final game of last season at Canisius and put on an impressive display, finishing the contest with three goals and three assists to have a hand in all six Bobcat goals. Cuomo will look to carry that momentum into this season as a member of the team's attack unit after opening up with a goal and two assists against UMass Lowell.
REPEAT FOR VITELLI
Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli is coming off a season which saw him earn his second straight MAAC Face-Off Specialist of the Year honor. After walking onto the team as a freshman and giving face-offs a try for the first time, Vitelli had a huge sophomore year, including a game in which he was 19-19 at the X, earning him the National Player of the Week honor from Inside Lacrosse.
SATURDAYS...IN THE PARK (OR STADIUM)
Quinnipiac fans can get used to Saturday afternoon lacrosse games at the school's brand new stadium. The Bobcats are at home on nine of the season's first 10 Saturdays, culminating with their home finale on Saturday, April 14 against Canisius. The schedule will also feature four doubleheaders with the Quinnipiac Women's Lacrosse team, beginning with Feb. 24, when the men's team plays Vermont at 12 noon, and the women's team plays Saint Francis (Pa.) at 3 p.m.
BOBCATS MAKE HISTORY IN 2016
The Bobcats had their most successful season in program history in 2016, sweeping the MAAC regular season and postseason titles with a perfect 8-0 record against conference foes, earning their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid, and picking up a win over Hartford in the NCAA preliminary round. The Bobcats will be looking to return to that form this season after coming up short of the MAAC Tournament last spring.
