QU Men's Ice Hockey Cruises To 3-0 Win At Brown

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team rolled to a 3-0 win against Brown in an ECAC Hockey matchup at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island. With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 12-14-4 overall and 7-9-2 in league play while Brown drops to 6-15-4 overall and 5-12-1 in ECAC Hockey action.
Quinnipiac freshman Joe O'Connor (Hamden, Connecticut), junior Brandon Fortunato (North Hills, New York) and senior Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut) all scored while Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) recorded 22 saves for his fifth shutout of the season. The Bobcats' shutout was its third straight against Brown on the Bears' home ice, with its last goal allowed at Meehan Auditorium coming on Jan. 30, 2015. The Bobcats also ran their undefeated streak against the Bears to 10 games at 9-0-1.

- 6:09, 1st (Quinnipiac 1, Brown 0) – Freshman Joe O'Connor scored his first career goal to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead with just six minutes into regulation. Tanner MacMaster carried the puck through the neutral zone and handed it to John Furgele. Furgele split the Bears' defense and walked across the crease before his drop pass found O'Connor's stick for the one-timer.
- 00:55, 2nd (Quinnipiac 2, Brown 0) – Less than a minute into the second period, Brandon Fortunato (North Hills, New York) took the puck off the stick of a Brown forward and took off up-ice, beating Brown's Luke Kania on the breakaway.
- 16:24, 2nd (Quinnipiac 3, Brown 0) – Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) moved the puck across the Bobcats' defensive zone to Karlis Cukste (Riga,Latvia) who ripped a pass up the middle of the ice to Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut) in the neutral zone. Duane had a jump on the Brown defenseman and beat him to the goal before roofing a shot that beat Kania and gave Quinnipiac a three-goal lead.

- O'Connor's first-period goal was the first of his career, and also made him the first player from Hamden, Conn. to score a goal at the NCAA Division I level (since 1998-99) for Quinnipiac. The last Hamden-born player to score a goal for Quinnipiac was Justin Nolan in 1997-98.
- MacMaster's assist gives him two goals and seven assists in his last seven games. MacMaster saw a five-game point streak come to an end against Yale on Friday, Feb. 9. For the year, the senior wing has scored 12 goals and assisted on 15 more for 27 points, which all stand as career highs.
- Duane's goal was his second of the season, while Cukste picked up his ninth assist.
- Priskie also recorded his 14th assist of the year, the most of Quinnipiac defensemen, and his second in as many nights. He now has a point in four-straight games and two goals and six assists in his last eight games.
- With its win, Quinnipiac is now 9-0-1 in its last 10 games against Brown, which includes four-straight wins.
- With its clean sheet at Meehan, the Bobcats have now held Brown scoreless on its home ice for 191:58, with the win standing as the team's third-straight shutout at Meehan Auditorium. The last Brown player to score against Quinnipiac in Providence was Mark Naclerio on Jan. 30, 2015.
- Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) earned his fifth shutout of the season, becoming just the sixth goalie in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey with five shutouts this season, to date.
