HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team fell to Union, 5-2, in an ECAC Hockey matchup at Frank J. Perrotti, Jr. Arena in Hamden, Conn. With the loss, Quinnipiac falls to 12-15-4 overall and 7-10-2 in ECAC Hockey play while Union improves to 19-13-1 and 14-5 in league play.

Freshman Matt Forchuk (Okotoks, Alberta) tallied his second goal of the season and Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) netted his team-leading 14th goal in the third period to tie the game, but the Bobcats couldn't keep up with the Dutchmen's offense in the third period.

16:24, 1st , (Quinnipiac, Union 1): A shot from Union's Anthony Rinaldi on the power play bounced off Quinnipiac goalie Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) and to Greg Campbell in the face-off circle. Campbell's slapshot beat Shortridge to give Union a 1-0 lead.
3:07, 2nd , (Quinnipiac 0, Union 2): Shortridge gloved down a shot from Connor Light, but the puck rebounded out to Ryan Scarfo at the point who sent it top-shelf past Shortridge
15:19, 2nd , (Quinnipiac 1, Union 2): Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia) carried the puck into the Union defensive zone, won a battle along the wall and then cruised through the Dutchmen's zone. He then handed the puck to Matt Forchuk (Okotoks, Alberta) who one-timed it over the blocker of Union goalie Jake Kupsky to put Quinnipiac on the board.
0:56 3 rd , (Quinnipiac 2, Union 2): Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minn.) sauced a pass to Alex Whelan (Ramsey, N.J.), who flew down the center of the zone on a breakaway, faked to the short-side post with the back hand before walking across the crease and beating Kupsky to tie the game at 2-2.
1:57, 3rd , (Quinnipiac 2, Union 3): Anthony Rinaldi picked the puck off a Bobcat defenseman on the blue line, brought it down the center of the ice and slapped it over the pad of Shortidge, who was pulled after Union re-took the lead.
3:12, 3rd , (Quinnipiac 2, Union 4): Union's Sean Harrison once-again stole the puck in the neutral before finding himself alone, one-on-one with Quinnipiac goalie Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Mass.) and blasted it into the net.
11:12, 3rd , (Quinnipiac 2, Union 5): Shorthanded, Sebastian Vidmar carried the puck down the center of the ice to the slot, where he got the puck knocked off his stick before it bounced to Brett Supinski, who wristed a shot past the glove of Petruzzelli.

NOTES

Forchuk's goal in the second period was his second of the season.
Whelan netted his team-leading 14th goal of the season in the third. Tufto's assist on the goal was his team-leading 26th assist and 34th point of the year.

Quinnipiac hits the ice against on Saturday, Feb. 17 when it hosts Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 7 p.m. The team will honor the five seniors on the roster before the puck drops at 7 p.m.
