Third Quarter Lull Slows Bobcats Comeback
HAMDEN, Conn. – A 14-3 run gave Quinnipiac women's basketball a 28-27 lead late in the second quarter, but the Bobcats were unable to hold the lead in the second half, as Central Michigan pulled away for a 67-52 victory at the People's United Center on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Mackenzie DeWees led the Bobcats with 13 points in the loss, the most points by a Bobcats freshman since Vanessa Udoji scored 16 against Saint Peter's on Dec. 1, 2016.

- Jen Fay's layup with 4:21 on the clock pulled Quinnipiac within a point, 10-9, but Central Michigan finished the quarter on a 12-3 run and took a 22-12 lead into the break.
- Back-to-back threes by Jen Fay and Edel Thornton cut the lead to one and an Aryn McClure layup gave the Bobcats their only lead of the game, 28-27, with 2:08 remaining in the first half.
- Central Michigan's Presley Hudson took over from there, hitting two threes and a jumper at the buzzer, going on an 8-2 solo run to restore the Chippewas lead at halftime, 35-30.
- McClure opened the second half with a free throw, followed by another Fay jumper, to get the Bobcats back within two points. Hudson stopped the run with another jumper, sparking an 11-2 run for Central Michigan, who jumped out to a 46-35 lead.
- Taylor Herd knocked down a three-pointer to open the fourth, but the Bobcats would not get any closer than that.
- DeWees scored in double figures for the first time in her collegiate career and became the first Quinnipiac freshman to lead the team in scoring since Udoji in the same game mentioned abovce.
- Fay dished out a career-high seven assists in the game. She had posted six assists in three different games earlier in her career.
- The home loss was just the fifth Quinnipiac loss at the People's United Center since the start of the 2014-15 season. The team is 51-5 on its home court in that time span.
- The loss was the first time this season that the Bobcats turned the ball over more than their opponent. The team forced more turnovers than its opponent in all but one of last season's 34 games.
