Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Dealt 5-3 Loss Against Princeton

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team fell to Princeton, 5-3, in an ECAC Hockey matchup at Frank J. Perrotti, Jr. Arena. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 9-13-4 overall and 4-8-2 in ECAC Hockey while Princeton improves to 8-10-3 overall and 5-8-1 in league play.
After the Tigers opened the scoring in the first, Nick Jermain (Norwalk, Connecticut) tied the game a few minutes later with his third goal of the season. Luke Shiplo (Oakville, Ontario) gave the Bobcats the lead with his first goal of the season. Princeton then scored three unanswered goals to close the second period and start the third to take a 4-2 lead before Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) pulled the Bobcats within a goal late in the third. Princeton put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal with less than two minutes to play.

- 5:43 1st, (Princeton 1, Quinnipiac 0): On the power play, Princeton's Max Véronneau's shot from the point on the power play was tipped by David Hallisey in the slot past Quinnipiac goalie Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts).
- 9:49 1st, (Princeton 1, Quinnipiac 1): Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) won a battle along the boards and fed Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) in the face-off circle. MacMaster walked in on goal before saucing a pass between a defenders legs to Jermain for the one-timer to tie the game.
- 17:36 1st, (Princeton 1, Quinnipiac 2): Kevin McKernan (Millbury, Massachusetts) had a shot from the point knocked down in traffic before Scott Davidson (Trail, British Columbia) picked up a loose puck in the slot. Davidson sent the puck on net where it was steered off by Princeton goalie Ryan Ferland. Shiplo, crashing the net, popped it over Ferland's shoulder with a back-hand shot to give Quinnipiac a lead at the end of the first period.
- 14:54 2nd, (Princeton 2, Quinnipiac 2): On the power play, Max Véronneau carried the puck over the blue line and sent it to Josh Teves. Teves' back-hand shot slipped past Petruzzelli to tie the game at 2-2.
- 2:15 3rd, (Princeton 3, Quinnipiac 2): Princeton converted on its third power play in as many chances when Teves passed the puck to Hallisey who potted his second goal of the night through the legs of Petruzzelli.
- 3:18 3rd (Princeton 4, Quinnipiac 2): On a two-on-one opportunity, Ryan Kuffner took a pass from Véronneau and banked the shot over the blocker of Petruzzelli and into the goal.
- 13:06 3rd, (Princeton 4, Quinnipiac 3): MacMaster picked up his second point of the net when he moved the puck to Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia) at the point. Martin split two defenders in the face-off circle before ripping the puck across the zone to Whelan on the opposite post for the tip-in past Ferland.
- 18:47 3rd (Princeton 5, Quinnipiac 3): Kuffner's second goal of the game came on an empty net.
- Tanner MacMaster's two-assist night is his seventh multiple-point night of the season, and also gives him a three-game scoring streak in which he has compiled a goal and four assists. He also has three goals and four assists in his last five games.
- Nick Jermain's first period goal was his third of the season and his first since Dec. 1. It was also his second goal of the season against Princeton.
- Tufto's assist on Jermain's goal was his 23rd of the season, which leads all NCAA Division I freshman. Tufto now has two goals and seven assists in eight games since the start of the second half.
- Shiplo's goal in the first period was his first of the season, snapping a goalless streak dating back to Jan. 14, 2017, where he added to the Bobcats 4-1 defeat over Clarkson.
- Whelan's goal in the third added to his team-leading 12 this season. He's now scored in three consecutive games and has six goals since the start of the second half.
