Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Defeats Arizona State, 5-3

GLENDALE, Arizona – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team scored four times in the second period on its way to a 5-3 win against Arizona State at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The Bobcats improve to 9-12-4 overall while ASU drops to 7-14-5 on the season.
Bo Pieper (Roseville, Minnesota) scored twice, while Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey), Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) and Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) all had a goal and an assist. Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) had two assists in the game to give him a team-leading 22 for the year. Quinnipiac was 3-for-4 on the power play, and are now 6-for-10 with a man-advantage over their last three games after a 0-for-31 drought through its game at Dartmouth on Jan. 12.

- 2:50, 1st (Quinnipiac 1, Arizona State 0): On the power play, Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) carried the puck below the blue line before zipping a pass across the Sun Devils' defensive zone to Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia) on the opposite wall. Martin then spied Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) on the opposite post and delivered a pass to his tape for Whelan's second goal of the weekend.
- 4:24, 2nd (Quinnipiac 2, Arizona State 0): Tanner MacMaster scored his 11th goal of the season after picking off an ASU pass in the Sun Devils' zone and sniped a shot over the right shoulder of Arizona State goalie Joey Daccord.
- 5:17, 2nd (Arizona State 1, Quinnipiac 2): Anthony Croston scored off a rebound off a shot by Jacob Wilson to cut Quinnipiac's lead in half, 2-1.
- 14:59, 2nd (Quinnipiac 3, Arizona State 1): On the power play, Bo Pieper (Roseville, Minnesota) played the puck behind the Arizona State goal to Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) who one-touched the puck to Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) in the slot for the one-timer. Priskie's shot was knocked down but Pieper was on the back-door to clean up the shot and give Quinnipiac a two-goal lead.
- 18:39, 2nd (Quinnipiac 4, Arizona State 1): On the power play, Tufto fed Brogan Rafferty (Dundee, Illinois) at the top of the ASU zone. Rafferty then moved the puck to Priskie at the opposite point for the one-timer that the Bobcats' captain buried to give Quinnipiac a three-goal lead.
- 19:08, 2nd (Arizona State 2, Quinnipiac 4): Dominica Garcia cleaned up a rebound off a shot by Jake Clifford to pull the Sun Devils back within two with a goal just 29 seconds after Priskie's goal.
- 19:16, 2nd (Quinnipiac 5, Arizona State 2): Pieper scored his second of the period just eight-seconds after Garcia's goal to give the Bobcats a 5-2 lead. Whelan and Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut) picked up assists on the play after Duane won a face-off in the Sun Devils' defensive zone.
- 14:03, 3rd (Arizona State 3, Quinnipiac 5): On the power play, Max Balinson's one-timer from the point off a pass from Johnny Walker pulled ASU to within two goals in the closing minutes.

- Tufto now has 22 assists for the year, the most of any NCAA Division I freshmen. In addition, Saturday's two-assist night gives him 10 multiple-point games for the season, also the most among NCAA Division I freshmen.
- Priskie now has a goal and an assist for the second time in his last three games after producing the same scoring line at Harvard.
- Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) improve to 8-10-2 on the season.
