WAPPINGERS FALLS, New York - The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost to Manhattan, 7-2, in the final meeting of a three-game series at Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, New York. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 17-28 overall and 10-11 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while Manhattan improves to 14-31 on the year including an 8-10 mark in conference play.
Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) blasted his 16th home run of the season to tie Joe Zangari's total from 1999, which stood as the most in the Bobcats' NCAA Division I history. Scafariello trails Tim Belcher's 18 homers in 1997 for Quinnipiac's all-time record. Joseph Burns (Shelton, Connecticut) and Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) both collected two hits while Burns scored a run with Moskey driving him in. Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut), a day removed from breaking Quinnipiac's all-time hit record, added another one for career hit No. 246.
Quinnipiac found itself in an early hole on Fabian Pena's two-run homer in the first. Matt Forlow added a three-run home run in the third inning to give Manhattan a five-run cusion. In the fourth inning, Burns singled with two outs before scoring on Moskey's double to right center to bring Quinnipiac within four runs, 5-1. Pena continued to give Quinnipiac problems in the eighth with a two-run double to give him four RBI for the day and push the Jaspers' lead to 7-1. Scafariello's long-ball in the ninth capped the Bobcats' scoring for the afternoon.
Quinnipiac returns to action when it travels to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts for a three-game, non-conference series at Boston College. The Bobcats and Eagle will face each other on Saturday, May 13 for a single game at 4 p.m. at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field and a doubleheader on Sunday, Ma 14 at 12 p.m.
