QU Baseball Clipped By Boston College, 5-1 and 3-0
5/13/2017 7:17:00 PM | Baseball
CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts – The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Boston College, 5-1 and 3-0, at Ed Pellagrini Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 17-20 overall while BC improves to 21-26 on the season.
Quinnipiac was held to three hits in each game, with Mike Palladino (Rockville Center, New York), Joseph Burns (Shelton, Connecticut) and Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tennessee) collecting hits in the first game while Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) added career hit No. 247 and Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) was 2-for-3 with a double. Burns added an RBI in the first game while Palldino scored the game's only run. Batten also reached base in the first game, extending his streak to 21 consecutive games in which he's reached base safely.
It was a committee day on the hill for the Bobcats, who opted to save their weekend starters' arms for the short-week match-up against Fairfield on May 18-19. In the first game, Chris Enns (Canton, Connecticut) allowed a run on three hits in two innings of work before giving way to the bullpen. Matthew Osieja (Wyckoff, New Jersey) entered the game in the seventh inning to become the first player in Quinnipiac to appear in 70 games in his career.
In the second game, Taylor Luciani (Berlin, Connecticut) pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, scattering three hits while striking out two. Robbie Hitt (Suffield, Connecticut) worked 3 2/3 and held the Eagles to a run on three hits while striking out four. Mike Davis (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) pitched the seventh and the eighth, giving up two runs on two hits. Davis entered the game having not allowed a run in his last 12 appearances.
Quinnipiac is scheduled to play Boston College on Sunday, May 14 at 12 p.m. With the potential for heavy rainfall, Bobcat fans should refer to QuinnipiacBobcats.com or @TheQBaseball on Twitter for schedule changes, as well as the latest news, scores and highlights.
