Quinnipiac baseball hosts Central Connecticut State University for a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, May 2 at the QU Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac enters the mid-week match-up between the former Northeast Conference rivals with a record of 15-26 while CCSU comes to town with an overall record of 22-18.
Their Last Time Out
Quinnipiac is coming off a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series against second-place Canisius in which the Golden Griffins squeezed out wins in the first and third games, while the Bobcats snagged the middle contest.
• Brian Moskey batted a team-leading .444 (4-for-9) for the three-game series, while also slugging .556 and posting a .546 on-base percentage.
• Matthew Batten was 3-for-8 (.375) in the series with two home runs, three RBI a double and a team-best four runs scored. Batten also drew three walks for a .545 on-base percentage and slugged a team-best 1.250.
• Battens two home runs give him three for the year, while his first for the weekend made him just the second player in Quinnipiac history - after Tim Binkoski '07 - to reach 240 career hits.
• Liam Scafariello homered twice and drove in four runs in the first game of the series while Ben Gibson also blasted a grand slam in the Bobcats' 7-4 win.
• On the mound, Taylor Luciani picked up the win in Game 2 of the series with 5 1/3 strong innings.
• Robbie Hitt saw a quality start squandered in a 3-2 loss in Game 3. Hitt lasted seven innings - of nine - while striking out eight and allowed two runs on four hits.
• Mike Davis continued his dominant season at the back-end of the Bobcats' bullpen with 2 2/3 scoreless innings in two appearances while converting on another save. He now has seven for the season while also flaunting an egregious 0.51 ERA with one earned run allowed in 17 2/3 innings pitched.
The Bobcats' Record Book
• On Friday, Matthew Batten recorded career hit No. 238 to tie him with Ryan Rizzo and Ben Farina for second-place all-time before hit No. 239 on Saturday - a home run - gave him sole possession of the second spot. His home run on Sunday made him the second player in Quinnipiac history to reach 240 career hits and he currently trails Tim Binkoski's '07 244 career hits for the record.
• Batten is also tied with Binkoski for fourth-place all-time with 136 career runs scored. He trails Joe Zangari (144), John Delaney (139) and Tim Belcher (137)
• Batten also sits in 10th place all-time with 98 career runs batted in. Two more would make him the 10th player in Quinnipiac history to drive in 100 runs for a career.
• To date, Batten is the third player in Quinnipiac history - along with Tim Binkoski and Ben Farina - to collect at least 225 hits and score 125 runs.
• Liam Scafariello connected for a pair of home runs in Friday's loss, which accounted for all of the Bobcats' runs, to push him past Nate Noyes' 14 single-season home runs for second place all-time. Scafariello and Joe Zangari (16) are the only players in Quinnipiac's Division I history to hit 15 home runs in a season, and the third all-time along with Tim Belcher's 18 in 1997 at the NCAA Division II level.
