LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but Siena regrouped and captured a 10-8 win over the Bobcats on Friday afternoon at Siena Turf Field.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-8 on the season and 1-4 in the MAAC and are eliminated from MAAC tournament contention after suffering four conference losses by a combined six goals. Siena improves to 3-10 with its third straight win, as well as 3-2 in the MAAC.
Quinnipiac had three different goal scorers in the first seven minutes as it jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Junior midfielder Alex DiSalvo (pictured) started the scoring off, and senior attack Drew D'Antonio and sophomore midfielder Matt Frost followed with goals. Siena, though, scored the last goal of the first quarter and then scored twice 14 seconds apart in the second quarter to tie the score 3-3.
The game remained deadlocked at 4-4 at the half, and freshman attack Tyler DeVito scored midway through the third to knot the score at 5-5. Siena, though, went on a 4-0 run, scoring the final three goals of the third and the first goal of the fourth quarter to take their largest lead at 9-5.
Senior attack Brian Feldman ended the drought with a goal, extending his goal-scoring streak to 20 games, dating back to last season, and sophomore midfielder Foster Cuomo scored his second of the game to close within 9-7. After Siena answered right back, Feldman scored his second off a pass from junior midfielder Anthony Carchietta, who assisted on all three Quinnipiac goals in the fourth quarter, to make it a two-goal game again. However, the Bobcats were unable to get any closer as Siena held on for the win.
Feldman finished with two goals and two assists, giving him 95 goals in his career, moving him into fourth place on Quinnipiac's all-time list, passing former teammate Ryan Keenan '16, who finished with 94. Senior goalie Jack Brust had 14 saves to help keep the Bobcats in striking distance. Chris Robertson had three goals to lead Siena, which finished with a 43-29 edge in shots on the day.
Quinnipiac closes out the 2017 season at Canisius next Friday for a 4 p.m. contest.
