NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey freshman Nick Jermain (Cos Cob, Connecticut) and sophomore Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) both scored twice to lead the No. 19 Bobcats to a 5-2 win against Yale at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 16-11-2 overall and 10-6-1 in ECAC Hockey while Yale drops to 10-9-4 including a 6-7-3 record in league play.
Jermain's two goals were the first two markers of his career, while Priskie's two goals gave Quinnipiac a pair of two-goal scorers in the same game for the first time since Mar. 28, 2014 when Kellen Jones and Matthew Peca both lit the lamp twice in a 8-0 win at St. Lawrence. Fittingly, Jermain becomes the first Quinnipiac freshman to score twice in a game since Priskie did it against Cornell in Game 2 of the 2016 ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals.
Priskie also added an assist late in the game on Tim Clifton's (Matawan, New Jersey) team-leading 12th goal of the year to give him eight points on four goals and four assists in his last six games. Brogan Rafferty (Dundee, Illinois) had two assists in the win to give him a team-high 20 assists for the year while freshman Logan Mick (Armstrong, British Columbia) assisted on both of Jermain's goals.
Yale's Frankie Dichiara scored his first of two goals on the night just under five minutes into the game. John Hayden fired a shot wide of the Bobcats' goal that Joe Snively picked up behind the Quinnipiac net. Snively found Dichiara alone in the slot where he was able to settle the puck and wrist a shot to the far post to give Yale a 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats answered five minutes later when Priskie potted his fifth goal of the season on the power play to tie the game at 1-1. Rafferty picked up his team-best 19th assist of the year when he found Priskie alone above the face-off dot for the one-timer.
Coming out the first intermission, Quinnipiac failed to convert on a five-minute major on Yale's Hayden, but a bad bounce in the neutral zone gave Snively a breakaway. His shot from the right of Truehl sailed wide but Dichiara was able to pick up the loose puck behind the net before converting on the wrap-around for his second goal of the night to give Yale a 2-1 lead.
Quinnipaic answered with back-to-back goals coming off a pair of hustle plays. Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) beat a Yale defender to the puck along the boards and pushed it to Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) at the blue line. MacMaster then handed the puck to Priskie who blasted a shot past Yale goalie Patrick Spano to tie it up at 2-2.
Later in the period, Mick put a shot on goal that Spano kicked away. The puck rolled out to the blue line, but Mick chased it down and sent it across ice to Connor Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey). Clifton then rifled a pass through the Bulldogs' zone to Jermain who popped the puck between Spano's pads to give Quinnipiac a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission.
Four-minutes-and-thirty-seconds into the third period, Mick made another hustle play when he picked off an attempted clear by Yale just below the blue line in the Bulldogs defensive zone. Mick fed Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut) who sent a behind-the-back pass to Jermain who was crashing the net for the freshman's second goal of the game.
Late in the game, Priskie took a pass from Rafferty on the left post before centering a pass to Clifton who converted to give Quinnipiac a 5-2 lead.
The Bobcats' regular-season schedule comes to down to five games, with a home game against Clarkson on Feb. 10 followed by a weekend in the Capitol District against Union and Rensselaer on Feb. 17-18, respectively before hosting Yale on Friday, Feb. 24 live on SNY and Brown on Feb. 25 for Senior Night at High Point Solutions Arena.
