No. 13/14 Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Tops Saint Mary's, 3-2

HAMDEN, Connecticut - No. 13/14 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey scored twice in the closing minutes to defeat Saint Mary's, 3-2, in an exhibition game at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Connecticut. Bo Pieper (Roseville, Minnesota), Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) and Kevin McKernan (Millbury, Massachusetts) all scored for the Bobcats while Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) assisted on two of Quinnipiac's three goals.
Keith Petruzzelli (WIlbraham, Massachusetts) got the start in goal and stopped 15 of Saint Mary's 16 shots-on-goal over the first two periods. Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) stopped 11-of-12 in the final frame to pick up the exhibition victory.

8:00 2nd Period (Tied 1-1): Bo Pieper picked up a rebound off a Landon Smith shot just above the crease before sliding the puck past the reaching glove of Huskies' goaltender Cole Cheveldave, to even the score at 1-1 just 38 seconds later.
8:35 3rd Period (2-1 SMU): Saint Mary's Anthony Repaci took a pass from Steven Shipley in the slot, edging a shot just past Bobcat goalie Andrew Shortridge to send Saint Mary's up 2-1.
13:10 3rd Period (Tied 2-2): Off an Andrew Shortridge save that saw the sophomore goalie feed Craig Martin, Tanner MacMaster took off through the neutral zone with Martin on a two-on-one. MacMaster carried the puck into the offensive zone before sneaking a shot past the left pad of Huskies' goalie Cheveldave to tie the game at 2-2.
14:06 3rd Period (3-2 QU): 58 seconds later, Kevin McKernan received the puck on a two-on-one with Landon Smith and blasted a shot past Cheveldave's blocker to give the Bobcats a one-goal lead, 3-2.

Quinnipiac heads to Chestnut Hill on October 6th to face Boston College in its first game of the regular season. The puck drops between the Bobcats and the Eagles at 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN3.
