LAST TIME OUT
Quinnipiac fell to Holy Cross, 2-1, on Saturday, Sept. 17, to fall to 3-4 on the season. Bobcats' co-captain James Doig (Liverpool, England) netted Quinnipiac's lone goal in the 38th minute, tying the game 1-1. Doig blasted a shot from 30 yards out that went past the right side of Holy Cross goalkeeper Henry Stutz, giving the senior his third career goal. Conor McCoy (Newry, Northern Ireland) and Jeppe Haehre (Baerums Verk, Norway) were each credited with an assist – the first of both of their collegiate careers.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM
St. John's has three players with five or more points so far in 2016. Harry Cooksley leads the offensive attack with two goals and three assists, Alistair Johnston has a team-best three goals, and Filippo Ricupati has two goals and an assist. Andrew Withers (.917 save percentage) and Michael Bernardi (.667 save percentage) have split time in goal for the Red Storm. St. John's is 3-1-1 in its last five games.
LAST MEETING vs. ST. JOHN'S
The Bobcats and the Red Storm played to a 1-1 tie on Sept. 22, 2015 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Senior defender Justin Kody (Northborough, Mass.) scored in the 24th minute to give QU a 1-0 lead, but the Bobcats settled for a 1-1 road tie at Belson Stadium.
JAMES DOIG
James Doig (Liverpool, England) started in 38 games during his first two seasons at Quinnipiac, scoring twice with nine assists in that span. He netted a goal in Quinnipiac's loss to Holy Cross on Sept. 17. Doig suffered a season-ending injury during the third game of the 2015 year.
MAX ROTHENBUECHER
Rothenbuecher, a 2016 co-captain, assisted on Scheiderman's goal vs. UMass Lowell. He scored two goals and added one assist in 2015. He had the game-winner vs. Canisius in the MAAC Tournament on Nov. 5, 2015. Rothenbuecher, who played in the Bayern Munich FC system for 10 years, has three goals and five assists in his career at Quinnipiac.
EAMON WHELAN
The freshman has registered four goals and 12 shots, both a team-high, so far this year. Whelan netted the Bobcats' first goal of the year against Louisville on Oct. 29, then scored again in a win over Lafayette on Sept. 4 before recording two goals Quinnipiac's last time out vs. Yale.
RYAN SCHEIDERMAN
Ryan Scheiderman (Brick, NJ) scored Quinnipiac's lone goal in a 2-1 loss vs. UMass Lowell on Sept. 10, heading in a feed from Max Rothenbuecher (Munich, Germany) with 17:11 left in the second half. The senior had two goals last season, which was tied for team-best. He has four goals and four assists in his career at Quinnipiac.
RASHAWN DALLY
Rashawn Dally (Bloomfield, CT) has a team-leading two assists for the Bobcats so far in 2016, both coming in a win over Lafayette at home on Sept. 4, 2016. The sophomore had one goal and two assists in 2015. He earned a spot on the Jamaican National Under-20 Team this summer, playing in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U-20 Qualifiers in June. Jamaica went 2-1 in qualifiers with wins over host Dominican Republic and Dominica.
MATTHEW TAYLOR
The sophomore registered two goals and three assists in 2015 for a team-high seven points. Matthew Taylor (Dublin, Ireland) netted the game-winning goal against Manhattan on Oct. 14, 2015, on a 25-yard blast in the third minute.
CHRYSOSTOMOS IAKOVIDIS
The freshman goalkeeper has started in four of Quinnipiac's six games this season. Iakovidis registered his first career shutout on Sept. 2, 2016 vs. Fordham, and has a 0.54 goals-against average with a .909 save percentage.
CONOR MCCOY
The freshman had a goal on Sept. 2 against Fordham, then recorded an assist on Sept. 17 vs. Holy Cross. Conor McCoy played U16 and U17 with Shelbourne United FC, Dublin in the Dublin District Schoolboys League.
QUINNIPIAC PICKED NO. 7 IN MAAC
The Bobcats were picked to finish seventh in the MAAC in a preseason poll of the league's coaches. Quinnipiac received 51 points in the poll, putting it in between Marist in sixth place with 57 points and Canisius in eighth place with 47. Monmouth was selected as the favorite (120 points), while Rider (103 points) finished No. 2.
