TAMPA, Florida – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey junior assistant captain Sam Anas (Potomac, Maryland) was named to the AHCA/CCM Hockey Men's Division I All-America First Team, as announced by the American Hockey Coaches Association on Friday, April 8, 2016.
This year's honor is Anas' second of his career after he received Second Team recognition as a sophomore in 2014-15 and was named the National Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2013-14. Anas is one of three players to earn All-American honors, joining Eric Hartzell and current Bobcats' associate head coach Reid Cashman. Anas and Cashman, who was honored three times in his career, are the only Quinnipiac men's ice hockey players to receive multiple All-American honors.
The award headlines an impressive list of accomplishments for Anas after he led the team in goals (24) and points (50) in his third season with the Bobcats, while also becoming just the fifth player in Quinnipiac's Division I history to reach the 50-point mark.
After breaking the 100-career point mark early this season, he heads into the NCAA National Championship Game as the active career scoring leader in college hockey. Anas led ECAC Hockey in goals, points, power-play goals (10), power-play assists (14) and power-play points (24) this season.
Earlier this year, Anas was named a New England Division I Men's Hockey All-Star, as well as being named to the NCAA Tournament All-East Region Team, as well as the All-CHN First Team and the ECAC Hockey First Team.
Anas will lead Quinnipiac against North Dakota in the 2016 NCAA National Championship Game on Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m. at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Bobcat fans can catch all the action on ESPN2, TSN2 in Canada, as well as AM 1220 WQUN.
