
Rand Pecknold Wins Spencer Penrose Award, Named STX/AHCA National Coach of the Year

Quinnipiac men's ice hockey head coach Rand Pecknold has been honored with the Spencer Penrose Award as the STX/AHCA Men's Division I Coach of the Year, as announced by the American Hockey Coaches Association on Wednesday, Apr. 6, 2016.
Pecknold will receive the Spencer Penrose Award at the AHCA's annual convention on Apr. 27 in Naples, Florida. The Bobcats' head coach was prevously named the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year (Tim Taylor Award) and also the College Hockey News Coach of the Year. Pecknold's past coaching honors include the 2013 Tim Taylor Coach of the Year award and the 2013 New England Hockey Writers' Association Clark Hodder Coach of the Year award, as well as the 2002 MAAC Hockey Coach of the Year and 2005 Atlantic Hockey Coach of the Year honors. Pecknold is a three-time Spencer Penrose Award finalist, given to the National Coach of the Year.
This season, Quinnipiac posted a program-best 31-3-7 record while winning the ECAC Hockey Regular-Season (Cleary Cup) and Tournament (Whitelaw Cup) Championships. Quinnipiac is currently the first team since Michigan in 1997 to head into the Frozen Four with just three losses.
Pecknold will lead the Bobcats to their second NCAA Frozen Four in four years on Thursday, Apr. 7 when top-ranked Quinnipic will face Boston College at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Now in his 22nd season as Quinnipiac's head coach, Pecknold boasts career record of 445-263-83, while his win total ranks sixth among active head coaches. Pecknold has guided the Bobcats to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, while Quinnipiac's 108 wins since the start of the 2012-13 season are the most among NCAA Division I programs.
