
No. 4/4 QU Women's Ice Hockey Falls to No. 10/10 Colgate, 3-2

HAMILTON, New York – The nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey had their program-record 21-game unbeaten streak snapped Saturday evening in a 3-2 loss to the nationally-ranked No. 10/10 Colgate Raiders at Starr Rink.
Quinnipiac's loss also snapped a seven-game winning streak, the second longest of the season as they fell to 23-2-4 (13-2-3 ECAC Hockey) while Colgate picked up its 17th win of the season to improve to 17-6-7 (9-4-5 ECAC Hockey).
Alicia Barry (Hanson, Massachusetts) scored her first career goal for the Bobcats in the win for her third point of the season, setting a new single-season career-high. Meghan Turner (Bedford, New Hampshire) scored her eighth goal of the season with a power-play tally for her 11th point.
With Turner's power-play goal, the Bobcats have now scored a power-play goal in eight straight games as they went 1 for 5 on the power play. The Raiders, who came into the game with the second best power play in the conference behind the Bobcats, also went 1 for 5.
Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) tallied a pair of assists to lead the Bobcats in points on the night. Her assists were her 17th and 18th of the season as she tied her single-season career-high of 27 points set last season.
Emma Greco (Burlington, Ontario) tallied an assist for the second consecutive game to give her four on the season. Nicole Brown (Oshawa, Ontario) tallied her 14th assist and 18th point of the season.
Goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) made 15 saves in the loss for the Bobcats.
Annika Zalewski gave Colgate a 1-0 lead with 3:43 to play in the first period. Jessie Eldridge skated the puck from the defensive zone all the way into the offensive zone before circling around on the left boards to create space and time for Zalewski to enter the zone. Eldridge fired the puck into the slot to Zalewski who managed to backhand the shot just past Rossman outstretched left pad for the goal.
Colgate jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 12:42 left in the second period to score their only power-play goal of the game. Olivia Zafuto fired the puck on net and was turned away by Rossman but Bailey Larson was on the back door and got the rebound. She lifted the puck off Rossman sliding to her left and Breanne Wilson-Bennett stood right on the goal line to tap the puck home.
Turner cut the Raiders' lead in half to 2-1 just under five minutes later with a power-play goal of her own. Taryn Baumgardt fed the puck to Brown on the right wing before tucking it down to Connery on the goal line. Turner skated out of the slot to the top of the right face-off circle where she one-timed a pass from Connery past Rando for the goal, through a perfect screen from Brown.
Colgate regained its 3-1 lead with just 56 seconds remaining in the third period right after a Quinnipiac penalty had expired. Cat Quirion skated into the offensive zone and fired a shot on goal, but Rossman steered it away comfortably. Bailey Larson chased down the puck in the left corner before circling around and zipping a centering feed to Zafuto in the slot. Zafuto wristed a shot high past Rossman's glove side for the goal.
Barry brought the Bobcats back within a goal on the first of her career with 8:31 left to play in the third period. Greco stopped the puck from exiting the left side of the zone and tried to lift the puck deeper into the zone. Connery knocked it down and gained control of it before feeding the puck to Barry at the right point. Barry stopped the puck and stepped into the shot and blasted the puck low past Rando's blocker side past Woods' screen in front.
Late in the third period, the Bobcats were on the power play with 6:03 left all the up until there just 1:24 left in the game, including several short five-on-three power play opportunities but could not convert.
