Quinnipiac
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac men's basketball team concludes the 2015-16 regular season when it plays a road contest at Siena on Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m.
The Bobcats will get a first look at the Times Union Center, which will be the host site for the MAAC Tournament next week. With one game left to play, it appears that Quinnipiac will face Rider in the 8-9 game at the MAAC Tournament on Thursday, for the right to meet top-seeded Monmouth in Friday's quarterfinals. A Quinnipiac loss coupled with a Niagara win at Monmouth would slide the Bobcats down to the 10 seed and result in an opening round matchup with Canisius.
Quinnipiac will be trying to end the season on a high note after a loss at Marist on Friday night. The Bobcats played Siena evenly in the first matchup, but the Saints closed out the game on a 13-2 run over the final four minutes to turn a 51-50 lead into a 64-52 win.
The Saints are on course to end a statistical dynasty for Quinnipiac, which has led its conference in rebounding margin for seven years in a row, since finishing a fraction of a percentage point behind Wagner in 2007-08 (Tom Moore's first season as the head coach). Siena comes into the weekend with a rebounding margin of +7.9, while the Bobcats are second at +6.6.
Quinnipiac still leads the nation in both total rebounds (44.1 rpg) and offensive rebounds (17.0 orpg) as it looks to extend its current streak of leading the nation in at least one rebounding category for each of the last five years. Freshman forward Abdulai Bundu (Upper Marlboro, Md.) has led that charge at 6.8 rebounds per game (sixth in the MAAC), while ranking first in offensive rebounds per game (3.6), placing 23rd nationally in only 23.6 minutes per game. Bundu has 100 offensive rebounds this season (of his 189 total).
Junior guard Daniel Harris (Tampa, Fla. - pictured) led Quinnipiac in scoring with 16 points on Friday and shot 4-8 from three-point territory to push his percentage from behind the arc over 40 percent for the season (40.2), ranking him sixth in the MAAC. Harris has hit two or more three-pointers in 22 of 28 games this season, including six in a win over Niagara on Jan. 30 and a 5-5 effort against Manhattan on Feb. 11, which ties for the second-best single-game performance in Quinnipiac's Division I history. Sophomore forward Chaise Daniels (Meriden, Conn.) also had 13 points against Marist, his fifth straight game in double figures as he has started to return to form down the stretch after missing a month with an injury.
Quinnipiac will be making its third trip to the MAAC Tournament next week, since joining the league in 2013-14. The Bobcats reached the semifinals in 2014 before falling to eventual champion Manhattan, after losing point guard Umar Shannon to a knee injury in the final week of the regular season.
