Nationally-ranked No. 4/3 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey will host the University of Connecticut on Wedneday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats enter the game at 2-1-1 while UConn is 2-0-2 on the young season.
QUINNIPIAC vs. UCONN
• Quinnipiac currently leads the all-time series against UConn, posting a 13-11-2 ledger against the Huskies.
• Head coach Rand Pecknold has been at the helm for all but four of the games and holds a 13-7-2 record against UConn, which also stands as Quinnipiac's record at the Division I level against the Huskies.
• Quinnipiac is 7-5-1 on its home ice, and 2-0-0 at High Point Solutions Arena.
• The Bobcats own a 6-2-2 record in its last 10 meetings dating back to the start of the 2003 season.
SCOUTING THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT HUSKIES
• UConn enters the game with a record of 2-0-2 after opening the season with a pair of wins at Alabama Huntsville - 6-0 and 4-0 - before posting a pair of ties at Colgate, 4-4, and RIT, 1-1, this past weekend.
• Sophomore Tage Thompson leads the Huskies with four goals and six points while Maxim Letunov has dished out a team-leading five assists. Evan Richardson has three goals to date.
• In goal, Rob Nichols is 2-0-1 with a 1.30 GAA and a .944 save percentage while Adam Huska started the Huskies last game and stopped 36 of RIT's 37 shots-on-goal in a 1-1 tie.
THE BOBCATS' LAST TIME OUT
Quinnipiac is coming off a pair of overtime games last weekend that saw them lose to Maine, 4-3, on Friday night before bouncing back with a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday night.
• Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) and Andrew Taverner (Edmonton, Alberta) both scored once and assisted on another in the weekend split in Orono, Maine.
• Clifton checks-in with three goals and an assist for the year while Taverner is just behind at two goals and an assist.
• For his career, Clifton has scored 34 goals and assisted on 40 more for 74 points while his 18 career power play goals rank second among active NCAA Division I players.
• Tommy Schutt (Chanhassen, Minnesota), Thomas Aldworth (Keller, Texas) and Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia) also scored this weekend, with Martin's first goal of the year giving the Bobcats the overtime win against Maine.
• Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) got his first career start, stopping 19 of Maine's 20 shots on goal for his first career win.
ACTIVE CAREER LEADERS
• Tim Clifton's 16 career power play goals rank second among all active NCAA Division I men's ice hockey student-athletes.
• Clifton also ranks tied for 22nd with 74 career points on 34 goals and 40 assists in 120 career games. His 34 career goals rank 17th among active players.
• Clifton's nine game-winning goals rank fifth among active players.
• Clifton is one of 22 players with three or more shorthanded goals for his career.
• Landon Smith is one of two juniors ranked among the 25 active career scorers. Smith's 71 points - on the strength of 28 goals and 43 assists - rank second to UMass Lowell's C.J. Smith's 35 goals and 46 assists for 81 points among those players in their third season of college hockey.
• Smith's 43 assists rank tied for 31st among active players.
