NEW ROCHELLE, New York – Quinnipiac men's soccer completed its second come-from-behind victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon, topping Iona, 2-1, on the road. The Bobcats move to 8-5-0 on the season (4-1-0 MAAC), while Iona falls to 2-10-0 (1-3-0 MAAC).
Quinnipiac's first come-from-behind win this season came when it battled back from a two-goal deficit to top Marist, 3-2, on Oct. 1. Since that point, the Bobcats have won four straight conference games.
Senior captain James Doig (Liverpool, England) netted the game-winning score in the 77th minute, belting a free kick into the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Doig now has two goals and three assists for seven points this season, and four goals and 12 assists in his Quinnipiac career.
Iona got on the board first in the 43rd minute, as Killian Colombie netted his first third of the season to make it 1-0 Gaels. Luis Mendoza passed the ball from the middle of the field over to Colombie, who blasted one into the left side of the net from the 18 to give Iona an advantage.
The Bobcats' would respond, however. Ryan Scheiderman (Brick, NJ) grabbed his fourth goal of the year in the 55th minute to tie things 1-1. Scheiderman, collecting the ball in a crowded box, fired a shot that deflected off a defender and into the lower right corner to tie the game. Scheiderman now has four goals and two assists on the season, good for 10 points – which ranks second on the team.
Doig did the rest, netting the game-winner for Quinnipiac with just 13 minutes to go. The Bobcats have now won four straight games for the first time since November of 2014.
Chrysostomos Iakovidis (Thessaloniki, Greece) recorded six saves in net for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15 – hosting Monmouth at the QU Soccer Field (2 p.m.).
