13th Annual Heroes Hat Homepage This year's Heroes Hat Game will mark the ninth time the Bobcats and Bulldogs battle for the Heroes Hat with Quinnipiac winning six of the previous eight matchups, which included three ties. The Heroes Hat is presented to the winner of the game on Quinnipiac's home ice, with the game at Ingalls serving as a tiebreaker. The Bobcats previously won the first four Heroes Hat Games, which were originally played against UConn, from 2002 through 2005. With the Bobcats' move to ECAC Hockey, the game was changed to reflect the league rivalry between Quinnipiac and Yale.
SENIOR NIGHT
On Saturday, Feb. 21, Quinnipiac will honor the playing careers of Justin Agosta, Alex Barron, Danny Federico and Matthew Peca as part of the Bobcats' 2015 Senior Night festivities. Prior to the game, the student-athletes will be joined on the Bobcats' bench by their parents and loved ones.
THE ECAC HOCKEY STANDINGS
The Bobcats are currently 20-8-5 overall including a 15-2-1 mark in ECAC Hockey - good for first place in the league standings. The Bobcats are currently undefeated in their last 10 ECAC Hockey games (9-0-1). The Bobcats clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming ECAC Hockey Tournament with wins against St. Lawrence and Clarkson last weekend. A win this weekend, or a tie coupled with a St. Lawrence tie, or a loss by St. Lawrence, and the Bobcats can clinch their second Cleary Cup in three years.
PLAYOFF HOCKEY AT THE BANK
Quinnipiac will host a best-of-three ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals series at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center on March 13-15.

THEIR LAST TIME OUT - No. 13 quinnipiac 4, Clarkson 1
The nationally-ranked No. 13 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming ECAC Hockey Tournament with a 4-1 win against Clarkson in an ECAC Hockey match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.
• 10 different Bobcats found their way onto the stat sheet in the Bobcats' four-goal night, highlighted by freshman Kevin McKernan's (Millbury, Massachusett) first career goal and also featuring the 14th goal of the year for both Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) and Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) as well as Andrew Taverner's (Edmonton, Alberta) fifth goal of the year.
• Landon Smith and Travis St. Denis both had assists as well, with Smith setting up St. Denis' goal on the power play and St. Denis picking up the secondary assist on Taverner's goal.
• Sam Anas (Potomac, Maryland), Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario), Alex Barron (Glendora, California), K.J. Tiefenwerth(Bellmore, New York), Derek Smith (Apple Valley, Minnesota) and Joe Fiala (Verona, Wisconsin) all had assists.
•Matthew Peca increased his team-leading assist total to 25 to go along with five goals, giving Quinnipiac a pair of 30-point scorers in him and Anas. Fiala also picked up his first point of the year,and second of his career.
QUINNIPIAC NAMED AS ONE OF THE TOP 10 COLLEGE FOR MEN'S ICE HOCKEY BY USA TODAY
Quinnipiac University was named as one of USA Today's Top 10 College's for Men's Ice Hockey. The article, by David Klenda, highlights Bobcats' head coach Rand Pecknold and the program's growth to a perennial NCAA power.
ALL-TIME AGAINST YALE UNIVERSITY
Friday's Heroes Hat Game will feature the 24th meeting between Yale and Quinnipiac, and the 12th on the Bobcats home ice. Quinnipiac owns a 13-6-4 record all-time against the Bulldogs, including a 6-2-3 record at home. Additionally, Quinnipiac is 6-1-3 in its last 10 meetings against the Bulldogs. Quinnipiac and Yale skated to a 2-2 tie on Jan. 31, 2015.
Yale enters this weekend with a record of 15-7-3 overall and 10-6-2 in ECAC Hockey play and are currently in third place in the league standings. The Bulldogs swept a weekend series at Union (2-0) and RPI (4-1) last weekend and have won seven of 11 games on the road this season. The Bulldogs are also 4-1-1 in their last six games.
• Mike Doherty leads Yale in goals (11) and points (18) with eight goals and seven assists coming in 18 ECAC Hockey league games. Doherty had the second assist in Ryan Obuchowski's game-tying goal in Yale's 2-2 tie against Quinnipiac on Jan. 31.
• John Hayden and Ryan Hitchcock are tied for Yale's assist-lead with 11 apiece, while Hayden has scored six goals for 17 points.
• In goal, Alex Lyon is 14-7-3 with a 1.59 GAA and a .940 save percentage. In 18 ECAC Hockey games, Lyon also boasts a 10-6-2 record with a 1.69 GAA and a .937 save percentage. He is also tied for the national lead with five shutouts for the season.
THE BOBCATS AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
Quinnipiac's top three veteran scorers - Matthew Peca, Travis St. Denis and Sam Anas - have had great success against Yale in their careers.
• Anas comes into the weekend with back-to-back two-goal outings against Yale (Jan. 31, 2015 and Mar. 15, 2014 in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals) and has scored six goals in six career games over the last two seasons against the Bulldogs.
• St. Denis has four goals and two assists in nine games over the last three seasons.
•Peca's four year career has produced three goals and five assists in 10 career games against Yale.
• In goal, Michael Garteig is 3-0-2 with a .922 save percentage and a 1.60 goals-against average in five career games against the Bulldogs.
ALL-TIME AGAINST BROWN
Quinnipiac is 15-7-5 in 27 games all-time against Brown, including a 12-2-2 record on its home ice. The Bobcats last loss at home to Brown came in the ECAC Hockey First Round in 2012. Quinnipiac won the first match-up of the season against the Bears, trumping them, 5-3, behind a hat trick from Landon Smith.
SCOUTING THE BROWN UNIVERSITY BEARS
Brown enters this weekend with a record of 7-17-1 overall and 4-13-1 in ECAC Hockey play, but have won three straight - knocking off Harvard (2-1), RPI (6-3) and Union (1-0).
• Matt Lorito is close behind Naclerio with eight goals and eight assists for 16 points. For his career, Lorito has 44 goals and 55 assists for 99 career points.
• Tim Ernst has been in goal of the last three games for Brown. He enters the weekend with a record of 5-5-1 with a 2.88 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.
THE BOBCATS IN THE POLLS
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey continued its climb up the national polls, this time landing at No. 11 in the USCHO.com Division I Poll and 10th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. The Bobcats are also tied for 10th in the PairWise Rankings.
Quinnipiac has won 15 of its 18 ECAC Hockey match-ups to date - good for 31 points and first place in the league standings. The Bobcats also own an 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) against league opponents.
• Quinnipiac's 20 overall wins are the most among all teams playing in ECAC Hockey.Nationally, Quinnipiac is one of five teams in the country with 20 wins to date.
• Sam Anas leads all ECAC Hockey players in power play goals (8) while Travis St. Denis leads in game-winning goals (5).
SWEEPS WEEKS
Quinnipiac's record of seven series sweeps against ECAC Hockey was accomplished in 2012-13 when it took the season series from Princeton, Union, Cornell, Clarkson, Yale and Dartmouth. This season, Quinnipiac has swept six ECAC Hockey teams - Princeton, Union, Rensselaer, Colgate, St. Lawrence and Cornell. The Bobcats took the first game of their two-game series against Brown and Dartmouth, whom they face over the final two weekends of the regular season.
MULTIPLE-GOAL GAMES
Quinnipiac's line-up currently features 13 multiple-goal games: five from Sam Anas, three from Landon Smith, two from Tim Clifton, and Travis St. Denis, as well as one from Alex Barron. The Bobcats are one of six NCAA Division I teams to feature 13 or more multiple-goal games, including Boston University (17), Michigan (16), Robert Morris (15), North Dakota (14) and Boston College (13).
THE KILLERS
Since the beginning of December, Quinnipiac has allowed four power play goals in 14 games and are 50-for-54 in that span.
THIRD PERIOD GAME-WINNERS
Quinnipiac's nine game-winning goals in the third period currently lead all NCAA Division I men's ice hockey teams.
MR. 400
With a 3-1 win at UMass on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold became the sixth active NCAA Division I coaches with 400 career wins while he also became just the 34th in NCAA history to reach the feat. Pecknold is now 410-256-74 all-time in his 21st season. He also joins legendary Quinnipiac coaches Burt Kahn, Mike Quitko and Dan Gooley as the fourth coach in Quinnipiac Athletics history to reach the 400-win mark.
PECA AND ANAS NAMED HOBEY BAKER AWARD NOMINEES
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior captain Matthew Peca and sophomore Sam Anas have been announced as nominees for the 2015 Hobey Baker Memorial Award.
• Peca is currently in his final season with the Bobcats, in a career that has seen the former draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning amass 40 goals and 93 assists for 133 career points in 144 games played.
• Peca currently leads Quinnipiac in assists (25) while also scoring five goals for 30 points in 30 games. Peca's 25 assists lead ECAC Hockey.
• In 14 games since the second half of the season commenced on Dec. 27, Peca has totaled four goals and 14 assists for 18 points.
• A three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic selection, Peca also received ECAC Hockey All-Rookie recognition as a freshmen.
• As a sophomore, he is best remembered for posting the fastest natural hat trick in NCAA Tournament history with three goals in 3:12 on his way to being named East Regional Most Valuable Player and also named to the All-Tournament team in guiding the Bobcats to an appearance in the 2013 NCAA National Championship Game.
• Anas is currently in his second season at Hamden following the most decorated first-year for any student-athlete in Quinnipiac history. Anas gained national recognition when he was named the Tim Taylor National Rookie of the Year by the Hockey Commissioner's Association. He was also honored as ECAC Hockey's Co-Rookie of the Year and was also recognized as the nation's top rookie by CollegeHockey.com and USCHO.com and also earned the George Carens Award from the New England Hockey Writers Association.
• This season, Anas leads Quinnipiac in goals (16) and points (32).
• To date, Anas is one of 45 players in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey to reach double-figures in both goals and assists.
• He is also tied for the second-most power play goals (9) in the country, and is one of six players in the country with five two-goal games to date.

LANDON SMITH NAMED ECAC HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey freshman Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 17, as announced by the league office. It is the first-year Bobcats' third honor this season. Smith led all ECAC Hockey freshmen in goals (2), points (3), goals per game (1.00) and points per game (1.50) while scoring the game-winning goals in both Bobcats' wins this weekend against No. 20 St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
LAND-O NOTES
First-year Bobcat Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) leads all ECAC Hockey freshmen in goals (14), assists (13), points (27), goals per game (0.47), and points per game (0.90). He also leads all of the league's first-year players in power play points (9), game-winning goals (4), shots on goal (83) and has the lone hat trick among all ECAC Hockey freshmen.
GARTY CENTRAL
For the year, Garteig is 19-6-1 with a 1.95 GAA and a .919 save percentage. Of the four ECAC Hockey goalies to start 16 games to date, Garteig leads all in wins (15), winning percentage (.861), GAA (1.49), shutouts (5) and is second in save percentage (.936).
Senior co-captain Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) currently ranks among the top ten in career assists (97) and career points (137) among all NCAA Division I men's ice hockey players.
