Named the 44th Captain in program history for the 2016-17 season ... Awarded the Quinnipiac Men’s Ice Hockey Academic Award for posting the highest GPA on the team ... Selected to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team … Appeared in 38 games with two goals and eight assists as well as a +3 plus/minus rating … Became the first player in Quinnipiac history to score a goal on the first shot of his college career after giving Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead against Alaska Fairbanks on Oct. 13 … Smith added his second career goal, incredibly on his second career shot against UMass-Lowell on Oct. 18 … Continued his torrid start to the season with back-to-back games with two assists on Oct. 19 and 22 … His first game of that stretch came at home against UMass-Lowell as Smith assisted on the game-tying goal and later on a power-play tally that pushed the Bobcats’ lead to 3-1 over the Riverhawks … Smith also tallied two assists on Oct. 22 against Bentley as he finished the four-game scoring streak with six points (two goals, four assists) … He later tallied one assist each against Rensselaer (Jan. 11) and against Yale (Mar. 14) in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals Game Two and series-clinching victory … Put together third game of the season with two assists at St. Lawrence on Feb. 28.
