ALBANY, New York - Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) was named the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
Garteig was the only goalie in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey to post a perfect weekend - back-to-back shutouts - and was one of three ECAC Hockey goalies to go 2-0-0. Garteig stopped all 42 shots he saw in wins at No. 10 Yale on Friday and at Brown on Saturday. Garteig now has three consecutive shutouts and owns the longest shutout streak (194:49) in program history. With the win on Friday, he broke the program's career win record with his 60th win.
The Bobcats goalie is currenlty 15-0-2 with a .952 save percentage and a 1.13 goals-against average. Through Saturday night's game, Garteig has not allowed a goal in 194:49, breaking Jamie Holden's record of 191:19 set during the 2003-04 season. Garteig has been lights-out as of late, posting a 5-0-2 record in his last seven games with a 0.29 GAA and a .987 save percentage in that span. He was honored last week as the Hockey Commissioners' Association National Player of the Month as well as ECAC Hockey's Goalie of the Month for November.
No. 2/2 Quinnipiac returns to action this weekend when it hosts No. 12/11 Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. That game can be seen live on SNY.
