The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team travels to the University of Maine Black Bears for a two-game weekend series at Alfond Arena with action beginning on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 P.M. followed by the final game of the weekend series on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 4 P.M.
All-Time Against the Black Bears
In Quinnipiac's 15 season history, the Bobcats are 8-11-1 all-time against the Maine Black Bears. Despite Maine owning the series between the programs, Quinnipiac has won six straight games dating back to the 2012-13 season, including two games in Orono in 2013-14. The Bobcats shutout the Black Bears in their last two matchups in Hamden last season, 4-0 and 2-0. Taylar Cianfarano scored two goals while Emma Woods and Erica Uden Johansson tallied one each in the first game of the series to win, 4-0. Cianfarano scored her fifth goal of the season in game two of the series while Nicole Connery added an insurance goal for the Bobcats.
Scouting the Black Bears
The Black Bears come into this weekend's contest with a record of 1-1-0 (1-1-0 WHEA) after one weekend of play where they faced the New Hampshire Wildcats and Boston University Terriers. Maine defeated New Hampshire in the season opener on Oct. 2 with a 4-0 win before falling to Boston University on Oct. 4, 4-2. In the loss to the Terriers, the Black Bears had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before allowing four unanswered goals to lose. Senior forward Audra Richards scored four goals in the opening weekend, including an opening night hat trick against the Wildcats to lead the Black Bears. Emilie Brigham and Brooke Stacey also scored for the Black Bears while Brigham also added an assist for a two-point weekend. Goaltender Meghann Treacy was spectacular for the Black Bears, recording 68 saves on 71 shots for a .958 save percentage. She also posted a 1.50 GAA. The Black Bears were just as good on special teams, netting one goal and only giving up one over the weekend.

Right Where She Left Off
Taylar Cianfarano picked up the 2015-16 season right where she left off in 2014-15 after picking up three points in the first weekend of the season. Cianfarano assisted two goals in the season-opener before scoring one of her own against the Mercyhurst Lakers. Her three points were tied for the third most in the conference in the Bobcats' opening weekend. Last season, Cianfarano tallied 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points.
Emma's World
The Bobcats were led on the ice in goal scoring by new junior assistant captain Emma Woods, who netted two goals in the season opener. It was Woods' second two-goal game of her career and 10th two-point game, Woods also surpassed the 25-goal mark and 50-point mark in her career with her first goal of the season.
Samo Scores
Freshman Melissa Samoskevich scored the first goal of her Quinnipiac career in her first ever game on Friday, Oct. 2. Samoskevich is no stranger to scoring goals, scoring 56 goals and 38 assists for 94 points as a senior at Shattuck-St. Mary's.
Building Blocks
The Bobcats blocked 21 shots through the first two games of the season, led by Kristen Tamberg's team-high six blocked shots. In game two against Mercyhurst, Quinnipiac blocked 14 shots which was twice as many as they recorded in the first game of the season.
Feel the Turn
Meghan Turner finished off game two in a strong way by scoring her 10th career goal, and 1st career game-winner, for the Bobcats. Turner's goal was her first since Dec. 5 when scored in the Bobcats' 4-4 tie against the Big Green.
New Sherriff in Town
There's a new goaltender between the pipes for the Bobcats as Sydney Rossman took over in goal with the graduation of Chelsea Laden. Rossman was solid in her debut weekend, tying her career-high with 25 saves on Oct. 3 against the Lakers. Rossman turned away a total of 45 shots in her unbeaten weekend. Rossman is 5-0-2 in her career.
Kosta's Klose
Nicole Kosta is set to make program history as the senior is just two points shy of recording her 100th career point and becoming just the third player in program history to accomplish the feat. Kosta is currently sitting at 98 points from 29 goals and 69 assists. Currently in program history, Kosta is second in assists and points behind Kelly Babstock and tied for eighth in goals. Babstock and Shiann Darkangelo are the only two players to record 100 points in a Bobcat uniform, as Darkangelo scored 60 of her 102 points at Quinnipiac after transferring from Syracuse.

The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will take a week's hiatus from regular season competition to play an exhibition game agains the Western Mustangs from London, Ontario at High Point Solutions Arena on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 P.M.
