Quinnipiac women's volleyball head coach Kyle Robinson has announced the addition of Maddy Halteman to the coaching staff as an assistant coach, effective Friday, April 21, 2023. Halteman is entering her third season as Assistant Coach in 2025.
In her second season in Hamden, she helped the Bobcats to 19 wins for the second straight season. Quinnipiac went 15-3 in MAAC play, earning themselves the #2 seed in the MAAC Tournament. Quinnipiac defeated the Rider Broncs in four sets in the MAAC Semifinals. Elena Giacomini earned MAAC Player of the Year honors, the program’s first conference player of the year. Junior Damla Gunes won the MAAC Setter of the Year Award for the second straight season, becoming the first player in the team’s history to win the award in back-to-back seasons. First year Carola Negron-Diaz was named to the All-MAAC Rookie Team.
In her first season as Assistant Coach in 2023, she helped the Bobcats to 19 wins, the most wins in the Robinson era. She also helped the Bobcats to a 14-win conference slate which earned them the No. 2 seed for the MAAC Tournament. Those 14 conference wins marked the most conference victories for the Bobcats in a single season. They faced No. 6 Iona in the MAAC Semifinals and defeated them in four sets.
Halteman saw nine players selected to the MAAC All-Academic team in 2023, as well as Damla Gunes being named Setter of the Year in the conference. With the accolade, Gunes became the first player in program history to be named the Setter of the Year and the first Bobcat to earn a major award since Alejandra Rodriguez was named the MAAC Libero of the Year in 2019.
Along with Gunes, Ginevra Giovagnoni were named to the All-MAAC First team. Aryanah Diaz was tabbed to the All-MAAC Second team and first year Leilani-kai Giusta was named to the All-MAAC Rookie team
Halteman comes to Quinnipiac after serving as an assistant coach at CSU Stanislaus this past season. Halteman was part of the staff that led the Warriors to 19 wins in 2022, the most in a single season in program history. While serving as an assistant coach, Halteman was the assistant coach for the Rage Volleyball Club 14’s.
“I’m very excited to have another fresh, bright mind join our staff,” said Robinson. “Maddy’s experience and positive energy will be a great influence on our student-athletes and athletic department. I can already tell she’s going to be a great fit with our Bobcat family.”
Halteman brings a wealth of volleyball success and knowledge with her to Hamden as prior to her getting into coaching, she was a four-year standout on the volleyball team at Fresno State from 2015-2019.
Halteman was a multi-time all-Mountain West Conference player at Fresno State, completing her collegiate career among the program's top 10 in four different career record categories. She stands at No. 3 all-time for the Bulldogs in career assists with 3,851, while her 136 career service aces are tied for third-most all-time in program history. Halteman’s career rate of 0.30 aces per set is fourth all-time, and her 8.60 career assists per set are ninth all-time. She totaled the third-most assists ever by a Fresno State freshman in 2016, racking up 823 that year.
After graduating from Fresno State, Halteman did a graduate year at Northumbria University in England as a member of the women’s volleyball program before starting her pro career overseas. Halteman's professional career began in Germany, as she starred for VC Neuwied 77 for nearly a year in Germany’s highest league, German 1 Bundesliga. Following her stint for VC Neuwied 77, Halteman signed a deal in the Swedish Elisterien League with team Gislaved VBK, where she excelled at the highest level for lone season with the team.
Halteman had a decorated prep career at Turlock before heading south to Fresno State, helping turn Pitman High into one of the area's best volleyball programs. She powered the Pride to a second-place finish at the California State Division I Championship as a senior in 2014, winning a Sac-Joaquin Section Division I title, a CIF NorCal Division I championship and a Central California Conference trophy along the way. The team finished second at the NorCal Division I tournament the year before while winning three straight CCC titles during Halteman's tenure. Halteman was named the CCC Setter of the Year three times (2012, '13, '14) and was named the conference's Most Valuable Player as a junior in 2013.
A native of California, Halteman earned a B.S. degree in Kinesiology – Exercise Science from Fresno State before obtaining her Master of Science degree in International Sport Management in January 2022 from Northumbria University.
