HAMDEN, Conn. — The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team rallied from a late deficit on Wednesday afternoon but could not punch in the overtime winner, as Bryant scored with 58 seconds left in the extra session to take home a 14-13 victory in Hamden.
The Bobcats erased a two-goal deficit with 3:07 remaining, as Brie Provenzano cut it to a one-goal game with 1:18 left and Julia Givens, who caused a turnover after Bryant won the ensuing draw, potted the game-tying goal with 16 seconds left to send the game to the extra session.
Quinnipiac had two cracks at the game-winner but they turned it over twice. After causing a turnover while a woman down during Bryant's first OT possession, the visitors were able to find the net at their second chance.
Provenzano got the Bobcats off to a hot start as she scored two of the squad's first three, jumping the hosts out to a 3-1 advantage in the first 5:28.
After a four-goal run from Bryant, the teams traded three-goal stretches that ended with the Bulldogs ahead 10-8 with 1:52 to play in the third.
A pair of Emma Miller-Ayala goals cut the deficit to one twice but the visiting Bulldogs had the answer. It wasn't until the back to back goals in the fourth that the Bobcats were able to bring it even again.
