HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team returns to Connecticut for a pair of midweek, non-conference contests. Quinnipiac will hit their home turf on Tuesday, March 24th, against the Rhode Island Rams. First pitch from the Quinnipiac Baseball Field is slated for 3 PM.
On Wednesday, March 25th, Quinnipiac will battle in-state foe, UConn, in Storrs. The first pitch from Elliot Ballpark is slated for 3:05 PM.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Bobcats dropped their second straight MAAC series, falling to the Manhattan Jaspers in two out of three contests.
- Manhattan took the first two games of the series, both one-run affairs, with the Jaspers winning game one 6-5 and taking the second game 2-1.
- For the second straight weekend, the Bobcats avoided the sweep, earning the Sunday victory over the Jaspers, 9-3.
- James Marino had a solid weekend for the Bobcats, finishing the series with a .333 batting average (4-for-12) and driving home six runs.
HISTORY VS. RHODE ISLAND
- Tuesday's matchup will mark the 26th time the Bobcats and Rams will face off since March 16th, 2001.
- Rhode Island leads the all-time series, 21-4.
- Last season, the two teams split their two games, with the home team taking each contest.
- Quinnipiac defeated URI 9-8 on March 25th at home and fell to the Rams 11-7 in Rhode Island on April 9th.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
- The Rhode Island Rams hold a 6-15 overall record and a 3-3 conference record so far this season.
- The Rams had a tough start to the 2026 campaign, dropping their first 12 games of the season, but are coming in as winners in four of their last five.
- Last time out, the Rams took the series from George Mason, winning two out of three games and outscoring the Patriots 21-17 in the series.
- Junior Reece Moroney has started all 21 games for the Rams this season and leads the team with a .417 batting average. Moroney ranks second on the team with 15 RBIs this season and first on the squad with 35 hits.
- Among the eight different starters for the Rhode Island pitching staff, Joe Sabbath has started the most games (6) so far this season. Sabbath holds a 9.12 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched. Sabbath has recorded 26 strikeouts and has allowed 26 earned runs this year.
HISTORY VS. UCONN
- Wednesday's matchup will mark the 18th time the Bobcats and Huskies will face off since April 26th, 2001.
- The Huskies lead the all-time series, 12-5.
- UConn has taken the last eight matchups against the Bobcats, with Quinnipiac's last win coming on March 22nd, 2006.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
- The UConn Huskies enter Wednesday's contest with a 12-13 overall record and have yet to begin Big East play.
- The Huskies dropped their first four games of the season, with three of them being at the MLB Desert Invitational in Scottsdale, Arizona.
- Last week, the Huskies were out on the West Coast to play four different schools. UConn started the week with a 9-3 win over Cal Berkeley and followed up with a win against Santa Clara (12-5) the following day. To wrap up their California trip, the Huskies split their two matchups against both San Diego State and San Jose State.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES
- The Quinnipiac Baseball team was picked to finish 3rd in the MAAC Preseason Poll after last season ended in the MAAC Semifinal round against the Rider Broncs.
- Christian Smith was named to the Preseason All-MAAC team as he returns to Hamden.
- Smith finished the year with a .329 batting average in 56 contests. Smith tied for the team lead in home runs with 15 and led the Bobcats with 67 runs batted in.
- Smith had a tremendous MAAC Tournament last season, finishing the week with a .375 clip (6-for-16), while driving in nine runs in the five games in Pomona, earning him a nod on the All-Tournament team.
KEY RETURNERS
- The Bobcats return 19 players from last year's team, with of those players seeing game action.
- Of those returners, nine are pitchers: J.C. Franconere, Sam Wright, Griffin Seibel, Mike Poncini, Matt Alduino, Nick Balcom, Andrew Rubayo, Josh Lajoie, and Mason Ulsh.
- Ten position players return: Cole Constable, Kyle Garbowski, Sam Ametrano, Christian Smith, Alex Irizarry, Luke Zeisloft, James Marino, Matt Park, Ian Nilsen, and Christian Nilsen.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 16 new faces to its campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to bring in sophomore right-handed pitcher Maddex Labuda (Liberty), junior outfield/first baseman Jack Balcer (Widener), senior right-handed pitcher James Pazdera, and graduate outfielder Brendan Edvardsen (AIC).
- Quinnipiac also brought in 12 first years, with six being pitchers and six being position players, Peyton Vancas (Pleasant Gap, Pa.), Timothy Park (Bridgewater, NJ.), Chase Camac (Northfield, NJ.), Caden Williamson (Broomfield, Co.), Teagan Beames (New Fairfield, Conn.), Brayden Hromada (Center Moriches, NY.), Joseph Hiller (Center Moriches, NY.), Kevin Rusinak (Manalapan, NJ.), Ethan Freed (Limerick, Pa.), Frank Orrei (Verona, NJ.), Langdon Hazen (Underhill, VT.), and Jacob Belecky (Komoka, Ontario, Canada).
NEXT TIME OUT
- The Bobcats will head back on the road for another MAAC series, as they take on the Saint Peter's Peacocks for a three-game set (March 27-29).
